    1. Montgomery Co., TN Nevill Family
    2. Kathy and others interested in Nevill families in Montgomery Co., TN, I went to the library to work on records of the George Nevill line and the Solomon Nevill line. I was amazed at the number of records they have amassed since the last time I worked in their library. After looking over what they have, I decided to do a thorough suvey of their records on all Nevills. I would like to have a clear overview of their activities in that county. In the past, I simply copied specific information or relied on what others had found in the records there. On my two visits about a week ago, I worked in the court minutes from 1797 to 1817. Already, I have copied over 100 pages of references to George Nevill (b. 1724 in VA; m. Rachel Earle, Fauquier Co., VA; lived NC and SC; d. 1811 in Montgomery Co., TN) and his sons Joseph Bargel Nevill (b. 1764), George Washington Nevill (b. 1772), and John Nevill (b. 1774), as well as some of the references to families of George's sons-in-law: Pollock, Owens, Whitfield, Killebrew, and Williams. With regard to the in-laws, I generally copied only those references dealing directly with the Nevill family. Many of the references deal with the Nevilles' roles as sheriffs of Montgomery Co. or with the juries on which they served. (A quick scan of the jury list should have been enough to convince people of that era not to offend the Nevill family - the sheriff and much of the jury were Nevills or Nevill relatives or Nevill neighbors.) Kathy, I am sorry that I did not have time to get to look up Solomon's probate record on microfilm, but I will be going back several more times this year and will get that done. I plan to move through the records in chronological order. In the court minutes through 1817, there is no mention of Solomon or any of the other Granville/Orange/Halifax Co., NC Nevill clan, not even a recording of a deed. I am listing below information I found on Crotzers who were associated with Granderson Nevill and also some Neville listings. Let me know if I can do any other look-ups in the following source.
