    1. Re: Montgomery Co., TN Nevills
    2. Kathy, The replies are not defaulting to the list, again, I just noticed. The reply was coming back to you. I have run into the same problem over and over with Nevill/Newell. I understand the squint. I have even gone as far as recreating the writing with my own hand to see if I could get a better idea. I am still working on a James and William Nevel/Newel in Yazoo Co, MS early land records. As far as Samuel Nevill/Nevell in Mont. Co., TN, goes, my vote is still out on that one. I need to see original records. As far as I know, he only turns up twice associated with Montgomery Co., TN. He is listed as Samuel Nevill on an early 1800 Mont. Co. tax list. One reference in court minutes I have surveyed thus far show a Samuel Newell. At one time, I thought Samuel Nevill might be part of your clan in Mont. Co., since he is not accounted for any other way. Then I realized that old George Nevill's father-in-law was Samuel Nevill, and I could see the possibility that he could be an unknown son of George's. Those thoughts occurred before I found the Samuel Newell reference in court minutes. I did see enough on a William Newell to know that he was always listed as Newell. Unfortunately, he apparently lived in the neighborhood or area where John Nevill lived! He also went to MS for a few years, according to court records in Montgomery Co. When he apparently returned around 1817, he got real busy serving on juries along with John and George W. Nevill. On the 1820 census of Montgomery Co., TN, a William Nevel appears. I did not get to that date in my survey of court records, so it't going to be interesting to see if William Nevel on the census should be Newel. Randerson Newell? How could the Newells be so inconsiderate as to mimic the sound or spellling of Nevill names!!! Thanks for your observations and comments.
