Jan: I just read your note about the Nevill/Newell spelling in Montgomery Co., TN. Is it possible that the handwriting makes it look like Newell? On Granvil Nevill's Texas confederate pension the name LOOKS like Newell on the front page and has been indexed that way, but it is definitely Nevill through the papers. Squint your eyes one way and looks like Nevill; squint your eyes another way and it looks like Newell. It's a swoopy V thing that they have going in their handwriting. You would have laughed your head off to have seen me spend a whole afternoon energetically chasing a Randerson Newell all over TN and MS because I was just sure he might turn out to be Granderson Nevill.
