    1. Neville lineage in U.S.

    3. Glenn: I am looking at your own lines you sent [7/15] and would like to compare notes - as, you, I and most everyone else, eventually have to know facts on John the Immigrant to St Marys... You have John 1612-1664 d. "Calvert Co." That should be 1664/5, Charles Co.: MD Calendar of Wills [abstracts]: Nevill, John, Portobacco, Chas. Co., 15 Jan 1664 - 4 Feb 1664 [1665, new style] To wife Johanna, property, real and personal, formerly bestowed by deed of gift. To son William, plantation. To dau. Ellen Lambert, son John Lambert, grandson John Lambert, personalty. There seems to be a period John was in Calvert, which could be caused by county boundary changes, but I plan on going back over everything I have, to see how that came about. It may be from Joe Neville's 360 yr book... I do not recall ever reading where Bridget died, or exactly when - do you have that documented? John gave a few depositions where he gave his age - I'll post them - it varies a bit. Calvert Co. originally was on both sides of the Patuxent River, and that makes for some confusion. I'll sort that out for everyone. It was only a short time before Calvert was on the north side of the river only, St Mary's taking back the south side. In fact, for a very short time, Calvert was called Patuxent Co., originally. There is something that I think is worthy of discussion. The assumption that John Nevill, Calvert Co. will 1673, probated 1674, is the first son of John the Immigrant: Nevill, John, Calvert Co.: 5 Oct 1673-14 Oct 1674 To Richard Tillman, Talbot Co., personalty. Patrick Sullivant of Talbot Co., ex. and residuary legatee of estate, real and personal. test: Ralph Blackhall, Jas. Barkhurst There is not one clue here that he is son of John. On the other hand, there were so few Nevilles, its easy to assume. But, there is a Richard Nevill of the Ark & Dove, sometimes documented as Richard Nevitt, that spent some time in St Mary's, then seems to have ended up on the Eastern Shore. Note that Talbot Co. is Eastern Shore. If John Sr had settled on his oldest son, John Jr, then why doesn't John Jr mention land? [Jr my addition - I find "Jr" nowhere in the records] Most, if not all of us here claim descent from John I's son, James, who went to Northampton Co. VA., or so the experts tell us. That may pan out in the end, but it seems to me that we have to account for John who d. Calvert Co. 1673-74, and also Richard of the E Shore. As we also have to know who were the first Nevilles at Isle of Wight, and what was the connection? Where is it documented that James of Northampton is son of John of Charles Co? Calvert Co. was created 1654. Do our previous researchers explain to us the Calvert Co. dates of 1640, and 1643? Was it that part of St Mary's that eventually, for a short time, became Calvert Co? What is the documentation that says James of Northampton Co., died ca 1700 Isle of Wight? What is the documentation that his son John was born ca 1661 Northampton? Personally, the only thing I can be sure of, is my lines back to George Neavil of Middlesex, who m. 1st Hannah [Symes?] and had his first two dau's baptized in Christ Church, Middlesex., marrying 2nd Mary Gibbs and removing to Prince William/Fauquier to raise his family, and leave a will dated 26 Feb 1774. It seems anything earlier is speculation. George being the brother of Joseph, of whom so many of you here are descendants of... Speaking of that - do you document Joseph's birth in Isle of Wight? I offer this simply as questions that should be considered by all of us - I'm as much in the dark to some of these questions as anyone. Actually, I may have some info. around here that answers my own questions, but I sure haven't come across it, yet <g>.. still digging. .. Jeanne
