    1. Re: NEVELS in VA.
    2. Paddy, I was looking back through my mail and came upon this query you sent earlier. I was intrigued by it at the time because of the "Nevels" spelling. One of my lines in Mississippi used the same spelling. At the time you sent this, I did not think I had any information that would help, but as I looked at this again, I see you have a question mark by the Foster name. The Fosters were connected with the George Nevils line of Charlotte Co., VA. The surname of that family was almost always spelled with an "s." George W. Nevils (ca 1758-19 Feb. 1816) married in Halifax, VA on 27 Jul 1785 to Sarah (Sallie) Foster (b. ca 1766; her will proved Maury Co., TN) daughter of William and Mary Foster; served in Rev. War; died in Charlotte Co., VA. His widow moved to Maury Co., Tennessee, where some of her children lived. The children of George and Sarah: 1. James Nevils (1786-ca 1833?) married Nancy Brooks 18 Oct. 1808 in Prince Edward Co., VA 1. Booker Nevils (ca 1800-1840) died Maury Co., TN 2. Clement Harrison Nevils (1792-1840) married Lucy Ann Davidson in Lunnenburg Co., VA on 9 Oct 1826; he died in Maury Co., TN 3. Elizabeth Nevils (1794- ) married (1) Abraham Childress 13 Nov 1817 Charlotte Co., VA; married (2) Samuel Dunnaway 16 June 1836 Williamson Co., TN 4. Josiah Nevils (1794-1854) born Charlotte Court House, VA and died Williamson Co., TN; married Sallie Beach (Basebeach) 21 Jun 1821; moved to TN in 1823 5. George Singleton Nevils (1797- )a lawyer; married Sarah Alley; lived Bedford Co., TN 6. John L. Nevils (1804- ) married Elizabeth Tatum 25 Nov 1822 in Lynchburg, VA 7. Isaac Nevils (1807- ) married Ann Boyd 30 Nov 1830 Williamson Co., TN 9. Allen George Nevils (1810- )born VA 10. Mary Ann Nevils (1812-bef. 1858) married _______ Burns According to PEOPLE'S HISTORY OF CLAIBORNE CO., TENNESSEE, George W. Nevils was the son of James Nevil and Jane Booker. Bristol Parish (Virginia) records show a James Nevil, son of John and Margaret Nevil, born 11 July 1733. In 1738 a John Nevels made oath he came into this country from Ireland in 1724 (Amelia Co., VA Court Order Book 1, p. 63). In 1741 JOHN NEVILLS and wife MARGARET vs. John Irby (Amelia Co. I hope it is of some help to you. Could Anna Nevels (listed below) be a sister or aunt of George W. Nevils?
