Although I've never seen any legal proof concerning Ann Bohannan as the wife of Joseph Neville (He is not a Col.--that would be his son, who actually was a General), I do believe she was his first wife as all the traditional history says. There are deeds and other records that show the Bohannans were neighbors of the Nevilles. Joseph Neville, Sr., b. ca. 1707 Isle of Wight Co., VA, d. aft. 1790 Hardy Co., VA; m. 1st, Ann Bohannan ca. 1729 in VA or MD. She was b. ca. 1710 in prob. in VA, d. ca. 1777 Hampshire Co., VA. Joseph Neville, Sr., md. 2nd to Mary Elliott on Dec. 11, 1777 at Fauquier County, VA. I have not seen or heard of the record that Ren gives of a Joseph and Mary Neavell acknowledging a deed of Thomas Roy in Caroline Co., VA on July 8, 1743. That is interesting. I wonder if there was a Joseph of the right age among the Isle of Wight Nevilles that are mentioned in John Bennett Boddie's books? Joseph Neville, Jr. married Agnes Nancy Brown. Sometimes she went by Agnes and sometimes by Nancy. That also has been a confusion in the past. I've never seen Ann Bohannan listed in any primary sources or even and "Ann" md. to old Joseph Neville, but I tend to support the tradition anyway. Ann Bohannan and Joseph Neville, Sr. appear to be first cousins. Brian Walls has worked this out, he thinks, and the line goes back to Duncan Bohannan who had legal dealings with the early Nevilles.
