Laura, I double checked my "not so clear" copy of the original 1874 letter. I'm far from an expert on old handwriting, but I can't see anything that looks like a "y" in the Perkendall/Kerkendall name. Amond does look like Amond to me. I will scan the document and send to to your e-mail directly (would anyone else like a copy?) for review. The more eyes we get looking at this letter the better!! Thank you much for the help!
