Hello all you cousins, It is Masters time in Augusta, watch for us on TV as the entire town goes crazy over golf. And NO, I have no spare tickets for your use. Not even for Peter who failed to invite us to his birthday party some years back. In reference to a portion of the Jan/David message below, there indeed is a Neville or two in Cherokee history. Saw a book some four months back in the Augusta Genealogy Library listing folks laying claim against the government. I believe there were two Nevilles so listed. And what have I done about this thus far? Nothing other than to note that the Cherokee microfilms are in the TN Archives and that the very next time I go there to pull them for a look. Of course I was there two weeks ago, but got distracted by the will of Alexander Neville, grandson of Yelverton/Yelvaton. My interest is the Cherokee possibility (just maybe, might be, whatever) is that Grandmother Elizabeth Neville, buried in Jackson Co. TN and the wife of Yelverton/Yelvaton might be Cherokee. His Rev. War service was in NC and he was to protect the frontier and to burn out the Cherokee Nation. -----------------Any maybe brought home a war bride???----------------------------- Straw grasping but have no other leads here. It is worth a hope! As to the will of Alexander, (Dated April 5, 1890 and Probated March 2, 1891) I have seen same printed out before in another book, but I also saw a another typed copy (blue ink on white paper) this time bound into a book on Tn wills). The book also gave reference to the microfilm of same in the Jackson County Will Book, Gainsboro, TN, page 548. Handwritten and signed "A. Nevil (his mark)," Attest by T. J. Shoulders and M. W. Gaines. Please note: the PRINTED copy of the will lists, "my grandfather Yealcaton," whereas the hand written copy in the microfilm/will book states, "my Grandfather Yealvaton," Also mentioned are his mother, "Easter" as well as his aunts, "Harret Nevil and Pollie Wilson Got a question for those more in the know on wills and legal things------"signed A. Nevil (his Mark)". Does this mean that Alexander himself wrote the entire will in the will book of Jackson County? Or, did someone copy the will into the will book for him to sign just his name? Or did the clerk just copy the will along with the signatures and the will is out there somewhere? Does "his mark" adjacent the signature "A. Nevil" mean that he could not write? Or----? As to the handwriting, and not being any sort of expert, the writing is neatly done. The N's throughout the text are usually different but not always from the N in the signature. The A's look similar as do the other letters in the name to those of the text. But the Signatures of Shoulders and Gaines seem to be done in the same pen asa the rest of the will. In conclusion, HELP! Hope you had an enjoyable Easter day. tom >>> Jan & David Faulkner <[email protected]> 04/05 12:03 PM >>> .......Has anyone checked the Cherokee rolls for Nevilles (any spelling) in the KY/TN/GA/AL Appalachain area. It's possible some of them married into Cherokee families since the Cherokee were in the Knox Co., TN area at the time Enoch was there.
