[email protected] --------------- Hello Ruth, I am so happy you have joined the list! Now we have at least three people looking for the MS Nevels -- Betty Stafford, you, and me. A while back you suggested that we try to get more information about the Obadiah Nevils group in Barnwell Co., SC, since an Obadiah Nevels was in MS in the 1800s. I have been looking on the internet when I have time and have also worked at the library some in an effort to learn more about the Barnwell Co. Nevils. I have kept William of Sumner Co., TN in mind as I have looked for details. I want to bounce a couple of statements off you to see what you think: 1. The Obadiah Nevils family of Barnwell Co., SC has names associated with it which seem to indicate a connection with the Albemarle/Amherst Co., VA family of Capt. James Nevil. Those names include Gardner, Lewis/Louis, Jefferson, and Zachariah. 2. Thomas Nevill, the Revolutionary War soldier from Amherst Co., VA, was later a resident of Rutherford Co., TN (children later found in Gibson Co., TN). Present-day Rutherford Co. is a couple of counties away from Sumner Co., TN. Because no connection has been found between him and the Amherst Co. family of Capt. James Nevil, is it possible there were other Nevils in the Amherst Co. area who were not directly descended from Capt. James Nevil? One interesting note related to this idea: Thomas Nevill had a son Reuben Nevill. Records in Amherst Co. indicate a Reuben Nevill was killed during the Rev. War. No connection has been made between Reuben Nevill who was killed and Capt. James Nevill. Was Reuben who was killed in the Rev. War a brother to Thomas? A Reuben Norvell (a JP) was prominent in Amherst Co., VA records toward the end of the 1700s and early 1800s. Is Norvell a variation on Nevil or vice versa? (I am compiling some Norvell notes in Amherst Co. records and will post them as soon as I finish.) Jan
