    3. Jan: The Nevills from George's line and from Solomon's line have something else in common: horses! Granvil D. Nevill Jr. took his grandson Virgil on a trip with him when Virgil was a boy. As an elderly man, Virgil was able to recall several details of information that he remember his grandfather Granvil telling him about Granvil's own father. It seems that part of the purpose of this trip was to go from Avery, TX to Mt. Pleasant, TX. On this trip they stopped at Granvil's father's grave. Here's what Virgil remembered about Granvil's father: He had a bad temper. He was always trading horses. He taught school for a while. He made harnesses for a living. Granvil still had negative feelings for his father because he had divorced Granvil's mother. Granvil and his father ran a freight line between Mt. Pleasant and Jefferson, TX. Virgil was unable to recall two key ideas: where Granvil's father's grave was, and the names of Granvil's parents. Shucks, foiled again! BUT from these tidbits I have been able to document the following about Granderson D. Nevill.... 1. He was sued by Allen Nesbitt in Dickson Co., TN because he had attacked and beaten Nesbitt in 1841. 2. He was sued over a horse trade gone sour in Dickson Co., TN. The other guy felt the horse was inferior abt 1841. 3. Martha Nevel divorced him in Dickson Co., TN in 1845 citing him as abusive, mean-tempered, and an adulterer. 4. In 1858 G.D. Nevill pays taxes in Bowie Co., TX. 5. In 1858 G.D. Nevill runs an ad in the newspaper with his recipe for how to prepare hides for tanning at the tannery he is operating with an Ellis. 6. On the 1880 census he says he is a schoolteacher. 7. There is a reference to a Prof. Nevill teaching in a one room school in Scott Co. near the Sebastian Co. line in 1873 [Granvil is in the area with his wife and children homesteading land in 1871.] So to date I have documented everything except for the freight line between Mt. Pleasant and Jefferson....and believe me I have looked through tax and county records!! And I still have not found Granderson's grave. Lesson: oral traditions are important to investigate. And TN Nevills love horses!! [re. GEorge W. Nevill was a horse trader too.] Kathy
