    1. [NEVILLE-L] Re: Samuel Neville and Alice Demint in Illinois
    2. Hi, Just saw your note re. George Neville (Sorry, I almost always spell it Neville as that was the way my mother spelled it, makes record keeping simple) and I have a bit of data on him. It comes from a cousin who lives in Perry County, Illinois. I do not know just how much you have on the family, but we list George T. Neville as the son of Joseph Neville 1792-1860 to 1870 and Elizabeth Mary (Polly) Pollock, they wed abt 1814, according to their son William's bible. I have not seen the bible, only heard of it being in possession of someone who does not show it to anyone. The person did talk with my cousin on the phone to offer the data. However, another Joseph Neville from TN also married a Polly Pollock and thus we also wonder. Joseph, Polly, and family moved from Jackson County, TN to Illinois, settling on the Perry County/Franklin County border. Their oldest child, John Wesley Neville, b. 1816, is my line. George T. Neville is their sixth child, and I quote what I have from my cousin. vi. George T., b. 1829 in Jackson County, TN. He served in the Union Army in the Civil War. George Neville married Emelia (Milla) Smith on 24 July 1851. George is buried in Bear Point Cemetery. The children of George and Milla Smith Neville were: 1. William A., born 1853, married first Maggie Mercer and second, Mary J. Galloway. 2. John F., born 1854, married Rhoda Hicks. 3. Sarah S., born 1855, marred Alexander Wilson. 4. Samuel G., born 1858, married first Jane Black and second, Alice DeMent. 5. Elizabeth, born 1862, married John A. Gregory. 6. Mary J., born 1867, married Thomas Elder. 7. Thomas G., born 1870. 8. James N. born 1872. I would be interested in knowing the original owner of the bible which you found, and whether the above agrees with your information. Hope this helps. Best wishes, Tom Dirksen Thus I have confused you with two marriages for your George and I have no data on his children as you supplied in your message.

    3. Tom -- Thank you so much for responding to my post so quickly! It makes me no difference if we spell it Nevill or Neville. Over the years I've seen my mother and grandmother spell it both ways! But in my grandmother's bible (the one I discovered this morning), she wrote it Nevill. Who knows? Our bible belonged to Margaret Ann Keller Wilson. Margaret was married to Orville C. Wilson, whose mother was Fleeta Belle Neville (daughter of Samuel and Alice). Margaret passed away two years ago, and now the bible belongs to my mother. I've been trying for months to work on my mother's family history, but haven't had much to work with -- and she has apologetically not had many answers to my many questions. And then this morning she said "You know, I do have Mom's bible." Fifteen minutes later I was at her house pouring over it and extracting as much info as I could find! LOL I wish I could conclusively confirm that your info and mine fit -- and so far as Samuel's date of birth and the fact that your Neville's were in Perry County at the right time, I believe they do. But I don't have any information for any of Samuel's siblings (or his first wife for that matter) -- or the generations before. But I'm going to assume that this is a good fit until I run into information that contradicts it! :-) If you think I have any information that would be of value to you, let me know -- I'd be happy to send you a GEDCOM file. It's still pretty sketchy, but I'm filling the blanks in as quickly as I can!
