    3. Jim: I noticed your posting concerning a Benjamin Neville in Franklin Co., TN. I don't have any specific information on this particular individual but I do know that there was a family unit from Halifax County, NC named Neville who were very prominent citizens during the early 1800s. The following will is from a son of Benjamin Neville of Halifax County: Will #952 pg 643 JESSE NEVILL SR. 21 Apr. 1819 Aug. Ct. 1819 daughter SARAH NEVILL (sic) the wife of BENJAMIN NEVILL JR. (sic) land and plantation I bought of EDMOND NEVILL, negroes etc. for her life and at her dath it all to go to her children (names not given) TEMPY HOLT’S children (names not given) the land I bought of ABNER KNIGHT and the land called DANIELS son JACK NEVILL negroes and the lands I bought of CHAPPELL CARSTARPHAN and land on Bear branch, negroes and the rest of my property. Wit.: MILES SMITH, RANSOM SHERRIN, HARVEY B-----(?) Extr.: my son JACK ********************************************************************** There are additional wills in Halifax County with the Neville name and I know there was a Benjamin Neville from the following will: SMITH, MILES (4/189) 4 Oct 1839 Nov Ct 1840 “…weak in body…” Wife BETSEY SMITH - life estate in land and plantation where I now live, along with stock, etc. At her death or marriage land is to be divided among my ten last children: PATSEY M. SHEARIN, POLLY F. SMITH, SALLY SMITH now SALLY GRAY, LYDIA G. NEVILL, PATIENCE W. SMITH, JOHN W. SMITH, THOMAS C. SMITH FRANCIS A. SMITH, ANN P. PARKER, ANNIS N. HOLT. SALLY GRAY, JOHN W. SMITH, POLLY F. SMITH and PATIENCE W. SMITH have received nothing of my estate and deserve their full share. Ex. Son FRANCIS Wit. B.B. SMITH, BENJAMIN NEVILL (Probate indicates ASBURY SMITH qualified as exr.) ********************************************************************* I have abstracts of these wills because the Neville family is part of my Holt line. There are other wills, deeds showing Benjamin Neville and his sons. I haven't researched the Neville line extensively but I also know that some of my Holt line moved to TN about 1802-03 as part of a group migration and settled parts of TN. If you don't know where your Neville's originated, I would suggest that you subscribe to the Halifax County, NC mailing list and post an inquiry there in regards to your Nevilles as I know this family was very prominent in the County late 1700s and early 1800s. Hope this helps. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jim McCormick" <jim-nutmeg@worldnet.att.net> To: <NEVILLE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, February 03, 2002 11:08 PM Subject: [NEVILLE-L] Virginia Neville families overview?
