#1. Benjamin Nevill 1840 Census NC, which Benjamin is this? He was born about 1765 +- 5 years. I feel this maybe Lydias husband or the home she was in. There are not that many possibilities for 1840. It is possible that this is the marker we have been looking for, Note: there is two females in this house one which is Lydias age and one the age of Jane Statum, both are in the home of Zachariah Nevill 1850 in Madison County Will # 487 pg. 230 Thomas Holt 14 Dec 1793 Aug Ct. 1794 Lend wife Ann Holt land and plantation whereon I now live, Negroes and the rest of my estate etc. during her life sons Joseph Holt, James Holt and Thomas Holt Negroes each after wifes death son Arrington Holt Negroes etc. and the land and plantation whereon I now live daughters Patience Johnston and Rebecca Read 1 negro each grandson Benjamin Johnston bed and furniture after my wifes death Wit.: Benj. Here we have a link to Benjamin, Tempty and Jesse *Two extant documents (a bond and appointment of successor guardian and an inventory) name five "orphans' of Jesse Nevill, viz. Adam, Joab, Malinda (or Malinder), Ezakiah, and Eagley( or Eaglet). One document uses the surname "Nevill" and the other uses "Holt" when naming the beneficiaries. Neither says what property came into the guardianship originally. The original guardian was Harvey Holt, brother of Mary(Polly) and Temperance Holt, daughters of Joseph Holt. The successor guardian was Thomas Nevill. *The Sarah Neville that is supposed to have m. Benjamin Neville Jr. was the daughter of a Jesse Neville b.5 July,1759 Fauquier County ,VA. The orphans had received money from Harvy Holt, their former gdn. Thomas Neville, Jr. was appt. gdn. of Adam, Joab, Eagley, Melinda and Zacharias Neville, orphans of the dec'd. [Jesse Neville], Feb. 17, 1823. (Note discrepancy of names) Records of Estates / Halifax County , North Carolina / Vol. II / Extant Bound Records by David B. Gammon *pg. 64 Nevill, Adam, Joab, Melinda, Eaglet & Zacharias (orphans' account) Thomas Nevill, Jr. was apptd. gdn. of the said orphans, Feb., 1823. ---- I believe Tempe Nevill was the daughter of Jesse Nevill and married Thomas Holt. After Tempe died her father Jesse must have been responsible for the children, because when he dies they are named as Jesses descendents and custody is given to Harvey Holt. Later Thomas Nevill Jr was appointed guardian. Roxann, I feel you are correct and it maybe that this Benjamin Nevill fits in here some how. Randy
