I've had four or five interesting experiences with "List" emails, they may be the ones you mention. I NEVER download something from an address that I don't PERSONALLY recognize. Or a forwarded attachment that was "endorsed" by a friend. So when I get an "unknown", I politely reply and ask that they "identify themselves so I can enjoy their attachment". Every time, I've gotten a message that the sender is UNKNOWN. Am I suspicious, cautious, etc? You bet!!! Carol in San Diego

Take note. There is a bad virus going around the last couple of weeks. It has showed up with people on the HARRIS-VA List that I manage and now people on the NEVILLE-L and NEVILLE-ORIGINS List have gotten these virus messages from a person who is a subscriber. It is called the Badtrans2 or W32/Badtrans-B worm and is spreading quickly. Please update your Antivirus software and do not open any attachments. The virus captures a person's address book and mails a message "Re" with no title and sends an attachment or else it sends a message "Re" with a valid subject line. And if you hit reply to the message and try to send it back to the originator, the address is bad as an underscore is added before the person's normal e-mail address. Some of these messages can be tricky, as they may have a valid subject line & even have Re: [Harris-VA]; Re: [Neville-Origins]; or Re: [Neville-L] in the subject which would make one think it was sent through the Rootsweb list, but it was not. You can't get a virus from a message that is routed through the Rootsweb surname lists. The Rootsweb lists don't accept attachments. These are coming from private individuals who happen to have your listed in their address book. So be cautious, and don't open any e-mails that have attachments unless you are sure of the source & you know it is safe. The Fauquier Co., VA leases in the Manor of Leeds, entered into by William Neavill are commonly called a "lease for lives." I don't know what the proper term is, but they were common in this area. Frequently, as in our case, they name the husband (William Neavill) & wife (Winifred) and a young child Jesse in 1:150-2 & Yelverton in 2:34-39). I have never seen records saying the lease has been terminated. However I expect it was rare that the lease really lasted as long as the life of the youngest person mentioned in the lease. I guess it was a protection in case the parents died, the son could continue to lease the land. E.
