    3. Linda, I'd be very interested in the North Carolina Neville family book. If you'd send me Mr. Trimble's address I'd greatly appreciate it. > Was this David C. Nevill(s) David Crockett Nevill(s)... I don't know if they're the same man, but I am excited to learn of someone with the right name and middle initial! Can you tell me where can I find more info on Crockett? Surviving family from Texas have no recollection or stories about this ancestor, who I found in the 1850 census for Houston County, TX. He (age 42) and his wife, Mary A.(38), are listed as having been born in TN, their three sons ages six to sixteen, are listed as having been born in Alabama. His occupation is shown as "C.P. Minister" (...anybody out there familiar with that term?) When I backtracked from this discovery into earlier census records for Alabama I find him in Lawrence County in 1830 & 1840. There are four Nevel/Nevels in the 1820 TN census with sons 10-16yrs (right age for David C.): Joseph Nevel in White County, TN John and Solomon Nevel in Montgomery County, TN Benjamin Nevels in Franklin County, TN >...and was this Benjamin Nevill(s) the same Benjamin that was born 1779 in NC. died > 1838 in Coffee Co., TN.? It's purely a guess based on the plural form of the name, which was used consistently in the line I'm concerned with: Nevills. I would love to be able to connect David C. Nevills with his father and mother, and welcome any thoughts or suggestions. Thanks, Jim

    3. Jim: I noticed your posting concerning a Benjamin Neville in Franklin Co., TN. I don't have any specific information on this particular individual but I do know that there was a family unit from Halifax County, NC named Neville who were very prominent citizens during the early 1800s. The following will is from a son of Benjamin Neville of Halifax County: Will #952 pg 643 JESSE NEVILL SR. 21 Apr. 1819 Aug. Ct. 1819 daughter SARAH NEVILL (sic) the wife of BENJAMIN NEVILL JR. (sic) land and plantation I bought of EDMOND NEVILL, negroes etc. for her life and at her dath it all to go to her children (names not given) TEMPY HOLT’S children (names not given) the land I bought of ABNER KNIGHT and the land called DANIELS son JACK NEVILL negroes and the lands I bought of CHAPPELL CARSTARPHAN and land on Bear branch, negroes and the rest of my property. Wit.: MILES SMITH, RANSOM SHERRIN, HARVEY B-----(?) Extr.: my son JACK ********************************************************************** There are additional wills in Halifax County with the Neville name and I know there was a Benjamin Neville from the following will: SMITH, MILES (4/189) 4 Oct 1839 Nov Ct 1840 “…weak in body…” Wife BETSEY SMITH - life estate in land and plantation where I now live, along with stock, etc. At her death or marriage land is to be divided among my ten last children: PATSEY M. SHEARIN, POLLY F. SMITH, SALLY SMITH now SALLY GRAY, LYDIA G. NEVILL, PATIENCE W. SMITH, JOHN W. SMITH, THOMAS C. SMITH FRANCIS A. SMITH, ANN P. PARKER, ANNIS N. HOLT. SALLY GRAY, JOHN W. SMITH, POLLY F. SMITH and PATIENCE W. SMITH have received nothing of my estate and deserve their full share. Ex. Son FRANCIS Wit. B.B. SMITH, BENJAMIN NEVILL (Probate indicates ASBURY SMITH qualified as exr.) ********************************************************************* I have abstracts of these wills because the Neville family is part of my Holt line. There are other wills, deeds showing Benjamin Neville and his sons. I haven't researched the Neville line extensively but I also know that some of my Holt line moved to TN about 1802-03 as part of a group migration and settled parts of TN. If you don't know where your Neville's originated, I would suggest that you subscribe to the Halifax County, NC mailing list and post an inquiry there in regards to your Nevilles as I know this family was very prominent in the County late 1700s and early 1800s. Hope this helps. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jim McCormick" <jim-nutmeg@worldnet.att.net> To: <NEVILLE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, February 03, 2002 11:08 PM Subject: [NEVILLE-L] Virginia Neville families overview? 3. I've traced one branch of the Neville family (David C. Nevills/Nevels) from Alabama to Texas, in the early 1800s. I think they probably followed the common migration pattern of VA or NC>TN>AL. I'm wondering if anyone out there has put together an overview or summary of the movements and descendants of various Neville ancestors out of Virginia? I also hoping to find someone who has found a will for Benjamin Nevills/Nevels who resided in Franklin County, TN, in 1820. Thanks for any help. Jim McCormick

    1. [NEVILLE-L] Albert, Dr. Harold, & John W. Neville --Hildreth, Nebraska, early 1900's
    2. Hi, My name is Marilyn Moser. I joined this list because I am researching the siblings of my greatgrandfather, Osiah Moser, and presently am tracing the life of his sister Hannah (b. 1829, PA), My grandfather was Osiah's youngest child, Oran, born 1871, in Madison County, Ohio. I have a letter that belonged to my grandfather. In that letter it gives her name as Hannah Swan living in Hildreth, Nebraska. The date on the letter is 1914 or 1915. Census records for 1910 show her living with her daughter Jeanette Neville, widow of John W. Neville, and two of Jeanettes sons, Harold, 17 and John W., Jr. 15. The census for 1900 shows a third son, Albert who was 10 in 1900. In the letter there is mention of a family tree Hannah had provided the writer for the Moser family. This family tree traced the family back into the mid 1700's, at least. I have document the names of the parents of Hannah and Osiah and need help identifying the next generation back. I would like to make contact with descendents of Jeanette and John Neville. I have found records for Hannah's first and second marriages. Hannah's first husband was Henry Frits, and her second was Daniel Swan. I would imagine Hannah had other children in addition to Jeanette from both marriages. Even if you don't have the information I need, I would still like to hear my cousins from this line. I'm willing to share information I have found about our extended family with others. My grandfather moved from Iowa to Jewell county Kansas about 1880 with his parents. In 1893, after the deaths of his parents, my grandfather moved to Beatrice, Nebraska where he worked as a mail nurse. In 1895 he came east with a doctor who promised to help him go to medical school After graduation from medical school, my grandfather remained in CT and was a family doctor. By the way, Hannah Louise Moser Frits Swan is my greatgreataunt. Looking forward to meeting some new cousins, Marilyn CT Sharing creates connections; connections grow family trees.
