    1. [NEVILLE-L] Two John Nevilles who claim to be sons of Joseph of Hardy co.
    2. Rebecca Lucas
    3. Hello, I am attempting to get in the DAR under Joseph Neville b. 1733 who died in Hardy co. VA. in 1819. There is an application on file in Washington DC that goes through his son John, however that application shows that John married Magdalene Spickard, it next goes through the son Samuel who married a Maria Murphy. I am gathering proof that this is not the correct son of John. I have information on the John Neville from Botetourt co. Va who was born 1773 and died in Botetourt co. Is anyone a descendant of these Nevilles who may give me some insights on where I can find some proof on their ancestry. I don't think It will be that hard showing he is not the true son of Joseph of Hardy co., but I must have enough evidence. Does anyone know where Samuel and Maria Murphy lived, I have not looked for them yet. Thanks. Becky in Ohio

    3. Sue, I have most of my information in a 3" ring binder, I will start going through this tomorrow and adding to what you have posted below. In 1790, going by the census it looks like Thomas Hoalt, William Nevill, John Nevill, Benjamin Nevill, Benjamin Nevill are living near each other. I am starting here, Richard Nevill was born 1803 NC. Lydia Nevill was born 1775 North Carolina. Perhaps I will find them when I go through this again. I have the following information in my files as of today that might be of help: NEVILLE, E. K. James H. Whitaker was apptd. admr. May 7, 1894. Heirs were Ed Neville (Nash Co.), Augustus Neville, Mollie Neville, E. K. Neville, Ida Neville (Georgia), Leon Neville and Leslie Neville (minor). Neville isn't my line (yet) but a close association leads me to believe they may be and, hence, I have these items entered in my information. This might be a starting place for you. There are Neville researchers on the group who have much more experience on ths line than I do. I only come out of hiding when I see someone suggesting there is a Temperance Neville Holt. 3. I am new to this list and have been reading with interest the recent exchanges pertaining to Benjamin Neville, Jr and Sarah Neville. My mother was a Neville whose family lived in the Enfield area for many years and I've recently been tracing her Neville line. It leads back to a Thomas W. Neville and wife Martha A. The census records of 1860 and 1880 show a Sarah T Neville living in the household and relationship given as grandmother. Is it possible she is the Sarah Neville who married Benjamin Neville, Jr???? I have not been able to locate any children of the marriage between Benj and Sarah; however the abstract of a will for Sarah T Neville, d. 1882, lists children Elijah K Nevill, Elias G Neville, Amanda C Neville and Eliza Porter. Any information that will help me correctly identify this "Sarah T Neville" will be greatly appreciated. Clara Brinson

    3. Sue, I will check again, it looks like the guardianship may have covered more than one family group by looking at what you sent me. This Zachariah Nevill is another problem, I have found him on only one census as Nevill. The census prior to 1850 aren't much help because they don't show family relationships. Thanks, Randy -----Original Message----- From: Sue Thompson [mailto:sthomps61@alltel.net] Sent: Wednesday, July 24, 2002 7:37 AM To: NEVILLE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [NEVILLE-L] Thomas Holt & Tempty Neville Holt & Children Randy: At least two of these children were NOT the siblings/children of Thomas Holt but the children of Polly Holt. Below are two abstracts of documents filed in the Halifax County Courthouse regarding the estate of Mary "Polly" Holt, the daughter of Joseph Holt, the grand-daughter of Thomas and Ann Arrington Holt. As you can see Eagly and Adam N. Holt were her children. Again, I need to see the parents listed for the Thomas Holt you are discussing and, more importantly, the father of Temperance Neville you think married the Thomas Holt. The children you are suggesting belonged to a union of Thomas and Temperance Neville Holt and the union itself is not supported by any records I have from Halifax County, NC. 3. Randy: At least two of these children were NOT the siblings/children of Thomas Holt but the children of Polly Holt. To the best of my knowledge and records Thomas Holt moved with his brother, Arrington Holt, to GA. 3. Sue, We are working on Jesse's Holts descendents to Zachariah's children and I will be stopping here. I feel that Zachariah is a cousin to Nickolas and will be using this to research the correct Nevill Family. Zachariah's daughter Lydia Nevill married a Davis in Gibson County, TN and this is all I have found on his children. I totally understand the frustration of trying to deal with multiple given names repeated in a line. I also understand that your research is a work in progress like most of mine. When you get yours to the point where you can share a tree structure, please let me know. I'm focused on the Holt side of the children named in Jesse Neville's will and would be very much interested in any information on their descendants/locations. Thanks.
