The message I am responding to is a bit confusing - but, anyhow - I have the Joseph Neville book called A 370 Year History of One Neville Family [this book has not been published, to my knowledge]/ Now - what's the question?

Hello all. I just recieved some interesting stuff from a friend working the George Neville-Mary Gibbs lines, and thought I would ask if anyone knows anything about the book cited in the work. Its called "A 370 year History of One Neville Family (1612-1982), its by a Joseph B. Neville, published 1988. Anyone familiar with this book, or know where I can find it? Thank you. Hi group.....ran some of the FTM CD's for Neville's in Canada. Didn't get a bunch of info but thought I'd pass what I noted along. The problem with the FRM (Family Tree Maker) CD's is they are only as good as the information furnished them and many people put in "unknown" or "private" in the "lives in" section. Anyway, some of these files are just references, a couple of the families go into some detail. If when you check this info, you think I can help, let me know. If the info I have is short, can send it to you email. If the info is lenghtly, will send snail mail. In no order: 1. Elizabeth Neville, dau of James Neville and Katherine Corcoran, b: 1840 in Canada, moved to Wisconsin. Has Casey isssue. 2. Ryan: Please post names of the Neaveills you know. I'm hunting some missing Nevills!! Kathy
Can someone tell me how I can view the list archives? Either on the Web or by sending a command through e-mail? Thanks? Ryan D. Neaveill Champaign, IL

Kathy and all, Everyone seemed to want the Neville list to default any replies back to the list (this is the way the list was run through MAISER), so I contacted ROOTSWEB and they have changed the way the list is run. I think this will help so that all replies will come back to the list (for everyone to benefit), rather than replies going back to the originator of each message. You can still contact people individually if need be (just send a message to their private e-mail address). I hope this helps us all in the long run. Glenn Gohr (Neville List Manager) ggohr01@mail.orion.org
Say, this thing finally defaulted to the list. Neat. Ryan: No, but this is an interesting variant, and one I will add to my collection. I have seen my early Nevills spelled Neaville. Kathy

No, it doesn't seem that my family has always spelled it that way: My father: Percy Douglas Neaveill (b. 09/21/1937) Grandfather: Walter Percy Neaveill (b. 03/13/1917) G Grandfather: Francis Elmer Neaveill (04/20/1878 - 01/16/1961) GG Grandfather: John Thomas Neaveill (11/20/1847 - 04/28/1928) GGG Grandfather: Andrew J. Nevil (09/27/1821 - 08/02/1897) GGGG Grandfather: Enoch Nevil (??/??/1778 - ??/??/18??) This is the information that my grandmother compiled. I do not not why the spelling was changed between Andrew J. and John Thomas. Maybe somebody here has some info? Thanks, Ryan Neaveill Champaign, IL
Very interesting Ryan....has your family always spelled their last name that way. You will find quite a bit of reference to Neavill in the early Neville's however, some of the time, this is the way the clerks and recorders spelled the name, and not the subject people. How about posting your "line" to the group and let them take a shot at it. Take care and welcome to the group......Ren Neville Ryan D. Neaveill wrote: > > Hello, > > I am new to this list. Hello, I am new to this list. I am curious if anyone here spells their last name the way I do. Ryan D. Neaveill Champaign, IL
Jan and Ren: I have found some early interaction between the Solomon Nevill and George Nevill lines in Montgomery Co., TN. Yesterday I received a packet from the Clarksville Library that was from a file indexed as Edward Walton Nevill. It contains correspondence from people who were doing research in the 1940's. Most of their work centers around Solomon's line and that of his wife Susanna Walton. I never could find her parents line until now--Trimble never goes into the Walton line and never indicates that he knows who her parents are. Susanna was the daughter of Edward and Barbara (Hester) Walton Sr. Edward Walton Sr. died in Montgomery Co. in 1819, generating the following records: Record Bk C 1818-1821, page 215: Bond of Edward S. Walton, Zachariah Grant and John Neville to administer estate of Edward Walton deceased. October term 1819. The John Nevill who is the son of Solomon Nevill was born in 1801. It seems to me that he is too young to the John Nevill mentioned in this record. So who is this John Nevill? It seems to me that the only other John Nevill who is a likely candidate is the one in George Nevill's line. The only other possbility is that this is not John Nevill, but Solomon Nevill written to look like John? That seems like reaching. And one other record pops up: In about 1822 the State of TN, County of Montgomery appoints William Trigg, Wm. R. Gibson, Richard Blount, and Bryan Whitfield, esquires to examine three of the daughters of Edward Walton, Sr, deceased in order to relinquish their dower rights. Isn't Bryan Whitfield in the George Nevill line? I seem to recall George and John Nevill living in the Trigg household on one census. Here are some surnames popping up in the Walton line. Do any of them turn up in the George Nevill line? Son-in-laws of Edward Walton, Sr: Charles Barker, Daniels, Charles Meriwether, John Hyde, Solomon Nevill [!]. Daughter-in-laws: Miss Gibson, Dolly Reekes. Kathy
Hello, I am very new to this list, in fact I have only been on it for about 10 minutes or so, but I already have a question. Does anyone have any info on Joeseph De Montmorency-Neville born before 1500 married to Ann of Komont..........this is all the info I have on this family, it has been a dead end for about 10 months and I just somehow staggered onto this list looking for help. Thanks Ken Pfrenger
Hi, I sure am pleased to have had this list made available to me.It's still a longshot but even if I can't use this space to resolve any of my mysteries perhaps I have some info that could be helpful to other NEVILLE hunters.I don't know what the protocol is here but I'm just going to put out my main family line and hi-light where I'm stuck.I'ts fairly extensive but I'll try and condense. THOMAS NEVILLE b.abt.1813 Ireland d.1878 Ross Twp. husband of MARY CLANCY b.abt.1802 " d.1887 " " three sons, baptismal registry Parish of Notre Dame Ottawa(Bytown) 1st son WILLIAM b.Nov.6,1841,Ont. m.MARGT. JORDAN b.Feb.10,1852,Allumette Isle P.Q. thier children WILLIAM b.1871 EDWIN b.Jun.26,1883 MARY b.1873 MABEL b.May9,1891 JAMES b.1875 JOSEPH L. b.Mar.26,1891 JOHN b.Apr.19,1876 MARGT. b.May6,1896 WILLIAM b.Mar.13,1881 This family lived in Pembroke Twp. between1870 when they married at least till 1901 census I havn't been able to find any further info on WILLIAM or decendents since this date. There are some NEVILLES living in Pembroke presently but they all seem to be of Douglas-Bromely Twp. family lines.Surely some of this very large family would have settled in the area of Pembroke. Also I would like info on THOMAS and MARY who are my GGGgrandparents. Since all three of thier children were born in Ont. I'm suspicious that they may have met and married in Can. as opposed to Ireland. 2nd son MICHAEL NEVILLE b.1843, d.Aug.14,1896 m. CATHERINE DUNLOP b.1848 d.1932 These are my GGgrandparents andthey had a huge family as did his son (my Ggrampa) so I will not list at this time. THOMAS and MARY'S 3rd son "THOMAS Jr." was born 1848 but must not have survived since he was not mentioned in the 1861 census in Ross Twp. where the family moved to and settled abt.1853 where my mother whose maiden name was NEVILLE still resides. I have tons of names and family connections but need much more especially post-1901. This NEVILLE branch has scattered especially to Ottawa region,Detroit Mich,Windsor, Maryland(O'GRADY) etc. I will exchange any info I have and hope for some back soon. Thank you for taking time to read this lengthy enquiry. Regards, Chris Chapeski
Welcome Chris and good hunting. Noticed that "Family Tree Maker" has your Mary Clancy or a Mary Clancy listed as recorded in the 1871 Ontario Census. Probably not Mary Clancy Neville, but it does show reference to a couple of Thomas Neville's in Ontario. If anyone in the group has any of the Canadian Genealogy CD's, maybe they can take a peek for Chris and see if something turns up and ship it to her. Paddy......do any of your Neville's fit in here....? cya.........Ren Neville
Hi Everyone: While browsing through Ancestral File at the LDS Library, I happened upon a marriage of an Anna NEVELS b 1773 in VA. to a Willim RICE b 1773 in VA. I wrote to the submitter but received no reply. I was particularly interested in this submission because I have a Rice ancestor, *Mary "Polly" RICE from VA who had a brother William of about the same age, and hoped it might be a clue to my NEVILL line from Harford MD. Mary "Polly" RICE and her brothers were POW's of the British in 1784 and eventually settled in Canada but William may have gone back to VA as he disappears from the records here in Ontario after 1806. Moses NEVILL = Elizabeth MITCHELL ? RICE = Maiden [?FOSTER?] of VA of Harford | | Co. MD | * Mary "Polly" RICE = Silas SECORD | b c1760 | | | Thomas NEVILL married Mary SECORD b. Harford Co. MD. If anyone one knows what NEVILLE line the above mentioned Anna is from I would be interested in knowing. Thanks. Paddy in Ontario, Canada
