    3. -- [ From: Jeanne Barton * EMC.Ver #2.5.3 ] -- Interesting, ref. the twin trait. My grandmother, Alice Belle Clatterbuck b. 1889, Fauquier Co., VA., and desc. of the Nevilles, had a twin brother. These are the only twins I have come across in my family lines, so far. If nothing else turns up, I'm going to have to suspect the Neville gene... Jeanne

    3. Connie, I have the following published in the Hopkinville Kentuckian newspaper Sept. 27, 1904: Oldest Twins in the United States The oldest twins in the United States are natives of Hardin county. They are Henry O. Neville and James M. Neville, of Harrison county, Mo., who were born in this county June 25, 1815. Their religious and political ideas run in the same channels. They were both colonels to the Federal army, both are Republicans and both belong to the Baptist church -- Elizabethtown News. Neville lists his place of birth? That information would help you know if you are on the right track (the 1850 Accomack Co., VA census may be on-line). If he was indeed from SC and William J., Joshua, and Junius are family names in your Neville line, then you want to look carefully at Joshua Neville who arrived in Charleston, SC from Ireland and whose descendants lived in Richland Co., SC. He first shows up on the census in Charleston Co., SC in 1810. He is also on the 1830 and 1840 census in Charleston Co. The 1850 census of Richland Co., SC (Columbia) shows Joshua there, along with Henry W. Neville and William J. Neville in the same county. Some evidence suggests that Nevilles/Nevels in the Colquitt Co., GA area and in the Giles Co., TN area may be part of Joshua's line. The migration pattern also suggests that some of the family was moving both west and north from SC. We have had at least two other list members descended from Joshua. In SOUTH CAROLINA NATURALIZATIONS 1783-1850 by Brent Holcomb is the following information on p. 25: Joshua, age 46 Nation of origin: Queen's County, Ireland Residence: Charleston, SC Occupation: Cabinetmaker Admission: 15 Sep 1814 ------------- >From Shirley Wilcox on the Neville List: 1830 Census Charleston Dist, SC p82, City of Charleston, Ward 4 JOSHUA NEVILL - - 2 3 3 0 1 0 1 - - 2 1 1 - 1 4sl HENRY W NEVILL 1 - 1 - - 1 1 1 1 = = 1 1f 90-100 5 sl NOTE: These two were enumerated next to each other. [ellipsis are in the text] -------------------- Note the above discrepancies on places of birth for Joshua--Ireland and England. Ireland seems more likely, since he always gave that place himself. However, one of our former Neville list members, Sandi Frierson, said that her family tradition was that Joshua Neville's family was originally from England, and that he was disinherited because he was a Quaker. I have more which I can forward to you about Joshua Neville and his line. He and his son Henry were cabinetmakers in Charleston and were in several suits there in an effort to obtain payments for work they did for various people. William J. Neville on the above Richland Co. (Columbia), SC census may have been Henry's son (listed both in jail and at home with Henry on the above Richland Co. census) or brother (son of Joshua) or nephew (son of one of Joshua's older children). Perhaps others on the Neville discussion list have more information about the Accomack Co., VA Neville line. Jan

    3. Where do you think the name Cinderella came from? (child of William Neville Sr.). I ask because I descend from a Cinderella Mc Clain and I'm aware that in early KY the McClains lived near Boones and Nevilles. I thought maybe the name came from a lady named Cinderella Recer (Racer, Rector) who married William McClain. Her family was from the Germana settlement of Frederick County VA and so also near Nevilles again. Shirley supplemented with some other notes, and I have a few more references I found a couple of months ago which I haven't transcribed yet. Do you want them, too? Sounds like you are in the Christmas spirit. Have you put together all the Christmas toys yet (bolt A in slot A under latch X with the assembly facing northeast toward the winter solstice in Norway)? Jan -------------- Linda, Welcome to the list. I don't recall anyone on our list researching the Nevilles in your query, but perhaps some of us have some clues that will help. Have you also listed your query with the other Neville list whose subscribers are looking for Nevilles in England, Ireland, Autralia, etc.? A Rev. War pension listed below concerns a Henry Nevel, Senior, of Montgomery Co., PA who was in Germantown during the Rev. War. It's possible he was related to Peter or Henry Nevell found in Robert Engle's will of 1696. Where did you find Robert's will? Other records below relate to a James Nevill/Nevell who was in the West Jersey area in the 1600s (Salem and Burlington are both mentioned in the records below). James also worked for William Penn in Pennsylvania. I am going to list more notes than you probably wish to see, but I was intending to post the Salem, New Jersey Nevill notes to the list anyway. Page 342 footnote #1 to James Neuill name above: JAMES NEVILL was a weaver, of Stepney, London, but in the West Jersey records is usually styled "gentleman," indicating that he did not follow his trade in this country. He came over with Fenwick, and brought a wife, but apparently no children. He seems to have had a decided taste for the law, and a fondness for writing, which led Fenwick to appoint him Secretary for the Salem Colony, April 30, 1678. He was a magistrate (commissioned Oct. 26, 1679), a conveyancer and scrivener, real estate agent, and a little of everything else. He signed the West Jersey Concessions, March 3, 1676-7. In 1681-4 he was an agent of William Penn, adversely to Fenwick. One of the volumes of Salem Records is filled with miscellaneous memoranda, made by him, of leases, law suits, contracts, etc., etc., of the greatest interest and value to the local historian. Jim Historic Land Records Deeded to Fairfax. Documents Found in Alexandria Include Transactions Dating to 17th Century By Sylvia Moreno Washington Post Staff Writer Saturday, December 19, 1998; Page B10. An Alexandria lawyer has donated thousands of old Fairfax County land records-- covering transactions that date back to the 17th century -- to the county government, which will make them available to the public. The 23,000 files were moved this week from the law office of Bernard Corbett to the Fairfax County courthouse. Corbett bought the records from the law firm of Davis and Ruffner, which specialized in handling real estate transfers, when he purchased the law firm's building in Old Town Alexandria 1 1/2 years ago and moved into its offices. Brian Conley, an archivist for the Fairfax County Public Library who examined the records before Corbett donated them, said they include abstracts of Colonial documents that will be of value to anyone researching the history of Fairfax's neighborhoods and subdivisions. The collection includes about 20,000 files on individual properties and 3,000 files on subdivisions. The files that deal with the creation of Fairfax's subdivisions "will be extremely useful for those doing community histories," Conley said. "If you have a development with 300 homes, for instance, instead of tracing 300properties, this will have the history for the entire subdivision. This speeds that process up immensely. "The donated documents also will help those doing title searches, Conley said. The files will be catalogued by the Fairfax County court clerk's office, and those of historical significance will be set aside in a special collection at the courthouse. Corbett said he plans to donate to the City of Alexandria another 18,000 files covering property transfers in the Old Town area. That donation will occur in another year or two, after city officials have come up with the space to store and display the documents, Corbett said. Together, the old Fairfax and Alexandria records were in 270 file cabinets that were taking up more than 1,000 square feet in his office building, Corbett said. "In my case, it was taking up a lot of valuable space," he said. "But what we mainly wanted was to put them in the hands of the whole county to take advantage of." Corbett's brother, Christopher, a Chantilly businessman, is a co-owner of the records. The Corbetts will seek an income tax write-off for donating the documents and are in the process of having their value determined by a professional appraiser, Bernard Corbett said.

    3. Shirley: Thanks for your response. I did not have the names of the children of George William NEVILLE and Sadie BANDY so you've given me some new clues to explore. I can confirm much of the information you posted re: the children of Henry Harrison NEVILLE and Elizabeth BANDY using published Harrison Co MO cemetery records and the 1880 census (although I've found many errors in the published cem. records so I really need to eyeball the tombstones myself next time I'm back there). -------- REPLY, Original message follows -------- It certainly sounds like you and George O. Neville have copies of the same Bible. My info on the Neville/Bandy children is slim. Perhaps someone else can add something. The Neville Family of England and The United States by Frances Beal Smith Hodges (pub. 1964 by Mrs. John Hart Wilson) shows three children for George William Neville & Sadie Bandy: Vera Lucille, William Leslie & George. For Henry Harrison Neville & Elizabeth Bandy it shows Martha Frances, William Otis, Mary, Nellie, Ray & unnamed twins. I have a few dates for this second family from an LDS Family Group Sheet and from Cedar Hill, Harrison Co. Cem. Rec's. This material remains to be verified. 3. Dear Researchers: We have alll been given a wonderful opportunity by Rootsweb. We can have free web space on the WWW on the Rootsweb server to post items such as queries, wills, deeds, census records, cemetery records, marriage records, etc. If no one else wants the job, I am willing to coordinate these pages. But there is one requirement. The person who requests the web space on a particular surname needs to be a Rootsweb Sponsor. Depending how much you sponsor Rootsweb determines how many surname pages you can sponsor. I believe the ratio is: $12.00 to sponsor one surname page. $25.00 would sponsor 2 surname pages. $50.00 for 4 surnames. $100.00 for 8 surnames. I'm assuming that someone on the list is a Rootsweb sponsor. If so, let me know, and I will submit your name as the sponsor, and see if they will allow me to still be the coordinator of the page. Or, if you would rather, you may contact Rootsweb yourself about this, and you could be the sponsor. If you are already a Rootsweb Sponsor, then they will accept your previous donation. Here is how to contact Rootsweb about a donation if you wish to: RootsWeb Gen. Data Coop. Box 6798 Frazier Park, CA 93222 http://www/rootsweb.com/rootsweb/how-to-subscribe.html These surname pages on the Rootsweb server are on a FIRST COME FIRST SERVE basis. I assume this means that whoever contacts them first can be in charge of a certain surname. Although, they also say they do not have enough available web space for every single surname yet. So we need to jump on this opportunity. Several family surname pages are already on the Rootsweb server. I am the list manager for quite a few different surname lists with Rootsweb. I cannot financially afford to sponsor a web page for each of the surnames I am working with. So I'm counting on someone else who is a Rootsweb Sponsor to assist in this way. I believe they want all these requests in ASAP and before the end of the year. Sincerely, Glenn Gohr [email protected] ________________________________________- Here is the message from Rootsweb: To all surname listowners... 1. Re: [NEVILLE-L] Juli8an Neville
    2. Thanks, Shirley: Although I have rather extensive Neville files, I had no info on JULIAN NEVILLE, other than an assumption that he lived in New Orleans. He is mentioned by name in a 30-page typed manuscript written by my great grandmother about her family's experiences escaping from NO to Northern Louisiana (Minden) where they lived for the duration of the Civil War. She describes JULIAN NEVILLE as a "kinsman of mine....and a Union man" who was deeply indebted to her husband, a wealthy cotton factor. I was just interested in learning more about him and his family. I'll do some searching in NO the next time we visit or pass through there. Cheers and best wishes for the Holidays, Jerry Dalton
