On examining the other old letters, the infomation is mostly Lloyd names. I don't know how much help they would be in researching Nevilles. Does anyone have the names of the children of Benjamin Neville, father of Jesse? It might give a clue as to his father's name. 3. I have some 1896 letters written to Hiram Barbee which deal with the Neville ancestry. They are very faded, written in pencil on tablet paper, I will try to make the words out as best I can. I think, that these letters which used to be owned Lena Barbee Salyers and copied by Dossie Gilbreath were the original source of come of the Neville information. I have tried to copy it - spelling and all -- just as I found it. Faucette, N.C. January 1896 Dear Cousin Hiram, I will send you the list of your great grandfather Neville's family. Jesse Neville was your great grandfather. Jesse Neville born September 24, 1746 His wife, Elizabeth Neville born 1752 They were married in 1770 Their children's names and ages: 1. Goodwin Neville born January 13, 1771 2, Cynthia Neville born October 18, 1772 3. Elizabeth Neville born January 28, 1775 (your grandmother) 4. Solomon Neville born April 3, 1777 5. Benjamin Neville born July 8, 1779 6. Jesse Neville born Dec 29, 1782 7. Goodmon Neville born January 9, 1784 8. Cynthia Ann Neville born March 16, 1786 9. Wilie Whitley Nevillle born Dec. 16, 1787 10. Samuel Park Neville born March 23, 1790 (Great Western Preacher) 11. Selah Neville born April 16, 1792 12.Oriss or Cass? Neville born 1794 (dead) (the above was not ledgible) The two letters ss were all I could be sure of. there was the name Oriss mentioned below. Cousin Hiram, this is correct. It is taken from the old Family Bible. Cousin Henry Ruffin Lloyd has the Bible and I have taken this list from it, myself. Robert can tell you who Hall Lloyd is. We all call him Hal. If you want a list of my great grandfather's family and also a list of my great- great- grandfather's family and I also can send you a list of the negroes. This Bible has been handed down from generation to generation. I have only one great Aunt Neville living. She is Ephran Lloyd, mother of Henry Ruffin Lloyd. Aunt Ephran's husband's name was Oriss. (I am not sure of this name, it was too dim to read.) Lloyd. He is dead. I guess that this will be interesting to you. I will send you my age. I was born September 13, 1866. Nearly all the above Nevills have children in the West. They are scattered all over the West. Solomon Neville has children in Memphis, Tenn. Solomon's grandson, Ike, was here at Chapel Hill about three years ago. The letter is signed by Sidney Lloyd who married Susannah Barbee. The Lloyds, Nevilles, and Barbees seem to have intermarried several times. The letters he promised to send later have not been located as far as I know. However, there are a couple of letters with scattered information, I will try to copy later in hope it will help someone find a piece of the family puzzle. 3. I was told by a fellow genealogist that he had an old letter which stated that Benjamin's wife's name was Elizabeth. It questioned the fact that John was the father of Benjamin and said that he believed that the father's name was William. Has anyone else heard of this or have any idea where to start looking for verification? The migration pattern, and the names of the children strongly suggest that there is a connection to the same family; although it may be a cousin, uncle, etc. instead of a father/son relationship. 1. [NEVILLE-L] Neville Heritage Review
    2. Neville, Gabe
    3. After a long delay, NHR v. 1 n. 2 is ON THE WAY! It was shipped last week to the Society secretary and should be in your mail box within a week. As editor, I apologize for its being so late, but hope you'll agree it was worth the wait! There are some great articles in this issue! I already have most of the contents for the following issue on hand, so I'm hoping to get it out on an expedited basis and catch up on the publication schedule. Since the index appears in every second issue, this should be possible. I'm hoping for June. If this is the second issue you receive, your NHS dues will be up with this issue. There should be a dues notice included with the mailing. Be sure to renew! Also: if you are reading this and have no idea what I'm talking about, take a look at our website at http://www.prairienet.org/neville/homepage.html and click on "about" to see how to join the Neville Heritage Society and receive the Review. By the way, I'm always looking for articles! Don't be shy! Gabe Neville Journal Editor

We can't even prove all of Joseph's children. I have never found a document that prooves that my William was Joseph's son for instance. However because of various factors it seems likely. By the way, I did a DAR supplemental on William Neville years ago. I proved his actual service. One person prior to me had used him showing patriotic service. Actually they had submitted service for the Fr. & Indian War, which of course does not qualify. Someone at headquarters had found the patriotic service, not knowing that he served in both wars. 3. Shirley, I thought the parents of Joseph Neville b. ca 1707, m. Ann Bohannan ca 1729, were John Neville, Sr. b. 1662, and Elizabeth Bohannan. Am I wrong? 3. Bob, Jan, Shirley, others, I believe that the Goodman who was born in 1783 (son of Jesse and Elizabeth Parks) was too young to be the father of Stephen (b. ca 1798) and Gideon (b. ca 1793). There was another Goodman, son of a Thomas. Halifax County, N.C. Deed Book 17, page 24. April 3, 1788: Thomas Neville to Goodman Neville for natural love and affection he hath and does bear to his son Goodman Nevill & heirs of his body lawfully begotten , & if he die without such issue to my son John Neville - - grants tract of 140 acres land in Halifax County, etc. Index to N.C. Wills 1665 -1900, lists Goodman Nevill, 1837, Will Book 4, page 154, Halifax County. Another reference from Records of Estates, Halifax County, N.C., by David B. Gammon: Nevill, Goodman. The widow, Nancy Nevill entered her dissent to the will of the dec'd Aug 1837. Inventory Nov 28, 1837 by Reddin Nevill, exr. Year's provisions allotted to the widow, Nov. 17, 1837. Account of sale Dec 22, 1837. Also, I found reference to marriage of a Stephen Nevill & Mary Peebles, 28 Mar 1820 in Halifax County, N.C. Jesse Burt, bm. I hope that some of this is helpful. 3. Bob, What a fruitful trip! When you say they were sons of Goodman Neville was this the man born 9 Jan 1783 who m 15 Sept 1804 Orange Co, NC, Jane McCauley? Or was there an earlier man by this name? Last Oct. Jan posted material from The Plains and Their People which had been copied by Lois Boesch. It said that Henry who d. Jly 1853 was a son of Gideon. Is this then wrong? Shirley On Wed, 28 Apr 1999 05:29:42 EDT [email protected] writes: >Ruth and Jan: From the court documents found in the 7th Judicial >District of >Louisana I have proved: > >l. James Neville Jr & Virginia Bailey were m 9 Dec 1842(bd) in Barren Co, KY. They were still there at the time of the 1850 census, so all three kids were probably born in KY. The family moved to MO around 1853, first to Cooper Co, then Johnson Co according to an obituary for Rebecca. Have you been in touch with Jo Mancebo? This is her family too & she had a query on the list a year ago. She has an obituary for Mrs. Amanda Fairman and also a one page Neville History written by Amanda. Your lineage 1. 3. Tom, It is likely that the wife of John Wesley Neville died 1844-45. In the Civil War pension of Henry Clay Neville there is a deposition from his uncle George T Neville who says that John's mother died when he was an infant & my mother raised him. That would be John's grandmother Mary Pollock Neville. Usually when the term infant is used it means a child under one. I have only recieved the books from the printer two days ago... Expect them to go out in approximately one week. We are sorry about the delay, but think you'll agree with us when you see the book, that it is well worth the wait. Gabe plans to have the next one out much more speedily; certain technical difficulties having been solved at this stage. We're getting better with each publication!! My thanks for your patience. 2. Thomas Dirksen
    3. Thanks to Shirley, Jim and Frieda who sent on Joseph/ Alexander/Sarah Neville information. I will follow up on this. I have very sketchy information on John Wesley Neville, son of Joseph and Polly Neville, born 1816 in Jackson County, TN. He married in TN but the name of his wife is unknown. She died before 1848 and considering ages of his children of record, he may have been married twice in that time span. John also traveled to Il with his parents/siblings, first living with the folks and later with his brother Sam. He supposedly had "recurring diarrhea" as the result of a case of cholera. We are unsure of his death; his son Henry Clay bought cemetery space in Tamoroa, Perry Co., Il in early 1867. We have seen the lots, from the surface appearance, someone is buried in Lot #1 where but the grave is unmarked. His children were: i. Eliza, born 1836 in Jackson Co., TN, died 1916 in Perry Co. Il. She married 1 September 1856 Thomas Fleming, born 1828 in Ireland, died 1909 in Perry County. They had 12 children and I have some names should any of you be interested. ii. Sarah, b. 26 June 1838 in Jackson Co. TN, died 8 March 1910 in Perry Co. Il. She married John Donahue 5 August 1856 in Perry C., Il. He was born 2 December 1830 in Ireland and died 12 August 1895. Both are buried in Nine Mile Cemetery, Perry Co, Il. They had 11 children. I have some names. iii. Henry Clay, born 9 May 1844 in Jackson Co. TN, died 31 December 1913 in Perry Co. Il. More on him will come later. I would appreciate any information and corrections re the above family. Thanks, Tom
