Posted on: Unknown County Nv. Query Forum Board URL: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Nv/Unknown?read=175 Surname: SHARP, SCHACHT, MACK, BUTLER, COOK, MacMILLEN ------------------------- This message has been added to the Nevada query board simply because Opal disappeared from her known haunts in Oregon and Washington states in the 1950's. She may have moved on to Nevada. Opal SHARP/SCHACT/MACK was born abt. 1906 in Vancouver, WA or Portland, OR. Her parents were: Henry SCHACHT (aka Henry SHARP who died Aug 1907 of complications due to appendicitis) and Dolly SHARP/SCHACT, born Dolly BUTLER, abt. 1884. After Dolly had been widowed in August of 1907, she lodged daughter Opal with the MACK family of Woodstock, OR, while she worked in a Portland restaurant to support herself and Opal. Dolly's address at the time of her death (d. 19 July 1908 in Portland, OR) was The Awahnee Apartments, 207-1/2 Third St., Third Fl. This is where she was murdered (shot, along with boyfriend Delmer PETERKIN) by a rejected suitor, David CONELLI. CONELLI then committed suicide. Delmer PETERKIN lived beyond midnight and died on the 20th. Opal was now orphaned, only 9 months after her father's death. Custody was given to Opal's maternal uncle, Edward BUTLER of Ridgeville/Ridgefield WA. However,it turned out that he left Opal to be a foster child & to grow up in the MACK family. Opal took the MACK surname, but it is not known if this was formalized or if her legal name was still Opal SHARP/SCHACHT. Opal eventually had three children, all of whom she gave up for adoption. She has been traced to the 1950's, but abruptly disappeared about that time. Can anyone shed some light on where this lady went? She would be approx. 94 years old today if she is still living. Besides her toddler daughter Opal, Dolly Sharp was known to be survived by -Edward BUTLER (her brother)of Ridgeville/Ridgefield, WA. -Mrs. Emma COOK (Dolly's aunt), of Fort Canby, WA. -Unknown McMillen, (Dolly's Uncle), living in Olney, OR. Geographic Locations: Woodstock, Oregon today likely refers to the southeast neighborhood in Portland that is known as Woodstock. Ridgefield, Wash. is just north of Vancouver Wash. Vancouver is just across the Columbia River from Portland. This offered as a possibility because no Ridgeville, Washington is shown today. Olney, Clatsop Co., OR is S. E. of Astoria and 6 miles from Astoria on SR-202. This is in the northwest corner of Oregon. Fort Canby State Park in Pacific Co., WA. There is also a Canby Oregon which is south of Portland but the Fort Canby makes more sense in relation to Olney. If Opal is no longer living, one of her daughters would be made very happy to know the last part of Opal's life story, & where she is buried, so she could visit her grave and find closure. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated by Opal's daughter and her many friends.
