I do not know in what county they were married. Family info says Nevada, but that may not be true. The only person left who knows for sure is irrasciable and untruthful.

Recently I published a website http://poorhousestory.com intended to be a clearinghouse for information about all 19th century American poorhouses. Poorhouse records have proven to be a valuable and previously largely untapped source of information about many people who may have been otherwise undocumented in the records we more commonly search to climb over our BRICK WALLS! So far I have been able to find only one on-line references to poorhouses in Nevada. If any readers know of such records or histories, I would really appreciate help directing Nevada researchers to them through the website. Thanks, Linda (aka = The Poorhouse Lady)

Hi, Everyone! I'm new to this list so will ask a question that may be known to everyone else but me. Does Nevada have a Death Index like CA? I am trying to locate a death date for a great uncle who disappeared out West after 1906. His name was Vincent Hipp, and he was born on May 19, 1884 in Monroeville, Ohio. I believe he moved to CA in the early 1900's and was in Goldfield, NV in Dec., 1906. CADI has been checked from 1905 on with no results. Help! Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks. Carole

If you haven't already discovered it, try the US Gen Web site for Nevada state for a list of resources http://www.rootsweb.com/~nvgenweb/nvstate.htm here's a Nevada newspapers site http://library.nevada.edu/micro/nevnews/nevtitle.html -----Original Message----- From: Penri James <wpj@aber.ac.uk> To: NEVADA-L@rootsweb.com <NEVADA-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Thursday, March 16, 2000 6:21 AM Subject: Robert Rowland Dear all Whilst sorting out some family papers I recently came across a letter written by CC Batterman, Superintendent of Mines, Gould and Curry Mining Co. Ltd in April 1870 detailing the death of an ancestor of my wife Robert Rowland in the Gould and Curry main shaft, Virginia City in September 1869. The letter details the circumstances of death and indicates that Robert Rowland was buried at the companys expense in Virginia City. Nevada is a long way from Wales therefore could anyone give some pointers where I can find more information about this accident. Would a death certificate have been issued? Where would the death have been recorded? How may graveyards were there in Virginia City in 1869? Do the graveyards still exist? Where are the records held and how can I access them? So many questions!! Thank you in advance for any assistance Penri James Sefydliad Astudiaethau Gwledig Cymru Welsh Institute of Rural Studies wpj@aber.ac.uk

>Hi All, > I have gone over the 1920 census for Grass Valley four times and I can't >find Joseph Morrish. I don't have a soundex. According to his obituary, moved >to Grass Valley in 1880 and died in 1921. He lived on Colfax Road. I couldn't >find him in 1900, either. How can a man avoid the census twice? >Diane Hall Diane, try looking for him in the voter's registrations/great registers. It could be possible he was missed twice, maybe he left for a short while? It is hard to guess what could have happened. If there is not anyone on the list who can look it up in Nevada County, write to: Doris Foley Historical Library, 211 N. Pine St. Nevada City, 95959. We can have a volunteer to over to Searls Library and look it up for you. Can't make copies. We don't have the soundex here either, just the census films. Also they can check Assessment books, but you have to know what town he lived in, as they are by town. Maria E. Brower, Grass Valley
