This changed in 1922 with the Married Womans Act). Carl, 19, NE Dora, 16, NE Rudolf, 11, NE Leona, 9, NE The 1930 Censusfor Pender, Thurston County, NE "Diechman" Wichman, age 66 Bertha, age 60 Dora, age 26 Leona, age 19 A posted family tree shows Leona daughter of Dietrich Wichman, died 1959 in Pender; mother: Bertha Margarethe Karoline Buhrman, born 13 April 1870 in Holstein, Oldenburg, Niedersachsen, Germany (A BEAUTIFUL town), no death date shown. Siblings: Henry, died 1986 in Anaheim, CA. Albert, died 12 Mar 1964 in Pender Carl, died 9 Nov 1978 in Pender Rudolf, died 28 May 1998 in California. The other siblings either did not have death location identified or died before Leona did in 1965. But, to answer your question, there "could" have been an obituary published in Pender, as there were family members still residing there. BUT, there are many factors to finding an obituary on a person. Obituaries cost and if a family member did not wish to pay the cost, one wasn't published; especially if the person had no local connections except for family. Sometimes the person wishes for no obituary or services. Sometimes the family is estranged. Etc., Etc. I will "assume" the Pender Times was in publication in 1965. You might contact that paper to see if they would research. It is a weekly publication, small town. So, one of the staff members might search the archives. Many newspapers do not...but this is small town, Nebraska. http://penderthurston.com/main.asp?SectionID=42&SubSectionID=99&ArticleID=223&TM=47702.92 I would suggest contact of the local library to see if they would research. MANY local libraries do not, but...small town, Nebraska. http://www.librarytechnology.org/lwc-displaylibrary.pl?RC=21257 www.zabasearch.com shows a Connie Wichman in Pender... She HAS GOT to be a family member...! If that number doesn't work, same name is shown in Elkhorn. She is "probably" married to Dan, same address, he is probably family. Also is found Leon and Norman... These are your best bet. "Connie" might help you. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
