    2. I have quite a few photos of people who I'm sure are from Thurston Co., NE. The photos are from the late 1800's to mid 1900's. Is there a place I can upload them to? I also have obituaries who were family friends and not relatives. Also I am searching KONICEK, KUHN, RUTLEDGE, TOELLE AND HULSEBUSCH, all from THUURSTON CO. in the late 1800's to present. 1. Family Heritage Fair
    2. Dear family researchers: Just an update on a genealogy event being planned for your area. Name of the event will be Emerson, NE-Mineola, IA-Giekau, Germany Family Heritage Fair. The fair will be held on August 5, 2006, in Emerson, Nebraska. The purpose of this event will be for people who that have worked on their families' history to share it with others. The focus will be on: 1. Any family that came from the Giekau Church District of Schleswig/Holstein, Germany. 2. Any family from the Giekau area that once lived in the Mineola, IA area and then moved to the Emerson, NE. area. ( Dixon County, Dakota County, Thurston County, or Wayne County) 3. Friends and Neighbors from the Emerson area. 4. Friends and Neighbor from the Giekau area. Surnames that we have so far that came from this church district: Bichel, Carsten, Dorhman, Dorman, Dose, Doose, Dohse, Ehlers, Giese, Hammer, Hansen, Jipp, Jurgens, Kay, Kahl, Kruse, Lamp, Lau, Lohse, Loof, Luth, Matthiensen, Möller (Miller), Nagel, Nipp, Rohrberg, Rönfeld (Roenfeld), Rönfeldt (Roenfeldt), Schluntz, Scheel, Schoening, Schroeder, Schutt, Stark, Steffens, Strohbehn, Stumpf, Thiering, Vohs, Voss, Wiese, Wolf, Wulf. Should your family's name be added to this list? The towns and villages that these families came from include: Giekau, Hohenfelde, Schwartbuck, Schmöl, Satjendorf, Gadendorf, Todendorf, Emkendorf, Fresendorf, the Estates of Güt Panker and Güt Neuhaus, plus a number of smaller places all within the Giekau Church district. It was decided that we would use the "Village Plan" for our displays. Tables will be placed around the hall in clusters each having a name of one of the main villages in the Giekau Church District. The more family information that we have from a certain village the more tables it will have. ( Sure hope that Satjendorf has more that one table.) We hope to have many Pictures from each town plus some history on each. (Maybe some of our friends in Germany can help us on the History part.) It is hoped that 3 or 4 people will "adopt" a town or village and help set up the information in their area. This way no one person will have to be at the tables at all times as turned out in Mineola last year. Everyone should have some time to look around and check things out. The Friends and Neighbors tables will be for families that aren't from the Giekau area but would still like to display their family history. (We still need someone from the Emerson area to help coordinate this table) The Friends and Neighbors table from Giekau will be coordinated by Larry Hodne his E-mail address is hal21@IowaTelecom.net This should be just Schleswig /Holstein families. 1. Blanche Garner
    2. LNiemannG
    3. Blanche Garner, 18, single, was living in Walthill when the census was taken 6 January 1920. She was a saleswoman in a retail store. She was a boarder in a Wendelstein/Mendelstein family--he was a dry goods merchant, and I suppose it was his store she worked in. Although her parents' birthplaces are switched around, I think she is the daughter of Charles and Cora (Lewis) Garner. She is age 7 on the 1910 census with them in Mercer County, Illinois, and they are known to have gone back and forth between Thurston/Burt counties in Nebraska and Mercer County, Illinois. Charles and Cora apparently reared a grandchild as their own, and I'm trying to figure out which of the children he/she was. I could possibly rule out if I knew Blanche's birthdate. SSDI contains a couple of possibilities: BLANCHE CLAUSEN born 20 Jun 1903 died Aug 1989 68047 (Pender, Thurston, NE ) 506-50-4871 issued Nebraska and BLANCHE FREDSTROM 15 Feb 1903 Jul 1987 68045 (Oakland, Burt, NE ) 507-26-4136 issued Nebraska Does anyone know if either Mrs. Clausen or Mrs. Fredstrom was a Garner? Thanks for any help! Lila Niemann Garner
