    1. Heritage Fair Emerson, NE
    2. Topic: Heritage Fair Emerson, NE Dear List: Some good news and some bad. Good news is that we have added two new workshops to the Aug. 5th Schedule at the Heritage Fair in Emerson. One on Scrapbooking by Darlis Lupton and the other workshop will be Heritage Quilting by Mrs. Sievers of the Quilt Shop in Wakefield, NE. The bad news is that due to health conditions Donna from Wayne will not be able to do the Wayne County workshop and at the current time we do not have anyone to fill in for her. If anyone would be able to help out at such short notice please contact me at _Huffner5@aol.com_ (mailto:Huffner5@aol.com) . Other than that all I can say is "Hope to see you at the Fair", Gary Schoening Check the Miscellaneous page at _www.giekau.com_ (http://www.giekau.com/) for schedule information and registration.

    1. Heritage Fair
    2. Topic:Heritage Fair Dear List: I hope that everyone is getting their file ready to bring or at least send in for the Heritage Fair. The names of the families from the Giekau area have been listed and reported on but some of the other families that will have their Family History Books, pedigree charts, descendancy charts has not had as much coverage. If you are planing on bringing some or just sending in some information I sure wish that you would list some family names so others would know. Gary Schoening Family information that I am going to display that is not from the Giekau area: Kruse, Hopp and Roennfeldt (all from the Oldenburg in Holstein area) Deitchler and Franke from the Hanover area Jensen and Clausen from the Island of Fyn, Denmark Sholes from Ireland See (Zeh) from Switzerland Vanderpool from Holland and last but not least my wonderful Smith family from New York(of which I know very little)

    1. Emerson Heritage Fair reminder
    2. Topic: Emerson Heritage Fair reminder Dear Researchers: One last reminder for the Family Heritage Fair, being held in Emerson, Nebraska August, 5, 2006. All families are invited to bring their family tree information, books, pedigree charts, descendancy sheets, family history write-up, you name it, if it is about your family we will find a place to display it somewhere. If you do have an item for display it will entitle you to the 50% discount on the admission price. The central focus of this event is the one small church district of Schleswig/Holstein called Giekau, but the overall fair will cover all parts of the world. Yes! Even Scotland, so my wife can put her family tree out also with her Hume clan. There will be a genealogy workshop held during this time also, maybe you can pickup some pointers on your research. As many of you know, part of Emerson is located in three counties, Dixon, Dakota and Thurston. Wayne County Genealogy Group has been invited to help with this workshop, making this a four county affair. If you have family from that area and can not make it to this event, feel free to send your pedigree and descendancy charts to me by e-mail and I will print them out and see that they get displayed. Please have your e-mail and snail mail addresses on what is sent in so if people do find a connection they can get in contact with you. You may also mail your information if you wish. For more information and the workshop schedule please check the web site. _www.giekau.com_ (http://www.giekau.com/) . You will find the schedule and registration sheet on the Misc. page and you do not have to be a member to go there. Thank you for your time, Gary Schoening 204 Harolds Drive Glenwood, Iowa 51534 _Huffner5@aol.com_ (mailto:Huffner5@aol.com)

    1. My Brick Wall story
    2. My Brick Wall story Dear Researchers: It has been brought to my attention that some successful “Brick Wall” stories would be nice also, and I agree that they could be very educational. If anyone would like to send in a story about how they got over their “Wall”, how long it took, all the things that you tried and how you finally succeeded in getting over that “Wall” , feel free to do so, as I am sure it will make for interesting reading. For the format, I have MS Word, so anything that will work with that will be great. Send stories to _Huffner5@aol.com_ (mailto:Huffner5@aol.com) and I will see that they get posted. Thanks for your time, Gary Schoening 204 Harolds Drive Glenwood, Iowa 51534 See _www.giekau.com_ (http://www.giekau.com/) for your Giekau family information and for more information on the Heritage Fair.

    1. Your Brick Wall
    2. Dear Researchers: The Wall At the Giekau Family Heritage Fair being held Aug. 5th in Emerson, Nebraska we have one rather large wall of the gym to fill up or cover with something. Since it is a “Wall” I thought that we could call it “The Wall” and have as many people as we can send in their “Brick Wall” that they have hit on their genealogy lines. This event is focused on the Giekau area so your best luck may come from that area but this wall will have no limits. We will take families from anywhere: Ireland, Scotland, Sweden, Norway, you name it and we will post it. What I would like to see is a nice looking sheet of regular size 8 ½ X 11 paper with your “Brick wall” story and the person's information that you are researching. If you have room on the page maybe a little story about what you have done so far to get over your “brick wall”. That information by itself could be very educational. If you wish to decorate your story with a border or something like that to make it stand out that is fine. Please be sure that you have either an e-mail or snail mail address on the sheet that you send. If you would title your sheet something like. My Hammer Brick Wall, something where you have the surname on the top title. Then the names, where, dates and your story. One family per sheet and you can send as many as you want. It is a large wall and we have a whole hallway that could be used also. Please remember, what may be a big wall for one person may have been nothing but a low hung fence for another. We are all in this to help one another, so lets see if we can fill that wall. You can E-mail your “wall” stories to me at _Huffner5@aol.com_ (mailto:Huffner5@aol.com) Or mail them to Gary Schoening 204 Harolds Drive Glenwood, Iowa 51534 For more information about the Heritage Fair see: _www.giekau.com_ (http://www.giekau.com) and click on the Misc. button on the upper right. You don’t have to be a member to view the whole site only if you want to add something to the site.

    1. Emerson Family Heritage Fair
    2. Dear Researchers: Just a reminder about the Giekau Heritage Fair and Genealogy Workshop coming up Aug. 5th in Emerson, NE. You can find out more information on the web site _www.giekau.com_ (http://www.giekau.com) . Check out the miscellaneous page for the schedule and list of family names involved so far. All families are welcome to display their family’s history. If your family came from the Giekau area of Schleswig-Holstein your information will be placed on one of the village tables. If your family came from elsewhere then they will be displayed on the Emerson Friends and Neighbors tables. This will include all families from the four county areas (Wayne, Dakota, Dixon and Thurston). Tables will be set up for other countries such as Germany, Scotland, Ireland, England, etc. So no matter where your family came from we will find a spot for it somewhere. Remember, Friends and Neighbors can cover a very wide area. For other information e-mail me at _Huffner5@aol.com_ (mailto:Huffner5@aol.com) , Gary Schoening Glenwood, Iowa

    1. Family Heritage Fair
    2. Dear List: I would like to invite you to check out our web site at www.giekau.com . You will find a copy of our brochure for the Family Heritage Fair what will be held August 5, 2006 in Emerson, Nebraska. The fair is being sponsored by a group of researchers who have family members that came from the small church district of Giekau in Schleswig/ Holstein, Germany. People from the Giekau area settled all over the country. A large number of families from the Giekau area, lived at least for awhile, in the Mineola, Iowa area. Many of the families then moved to the counties around Emerson. Emerson is located in three counties: Dakota, Dixon, Thurston with Wayne county not being very far away. The families from Giekau, would like to invite their friends and neighbors to display their family information also. If you have family that lives or lived in the four counties: Dakota, Dixon, Thurston or Wayne, and would like to have your information displayed please contact me at <Huffner5@aol.com> . A list of families that came from the Giekau area and the list of friends and neighbor's willing to display their family information can be found on the web site.
