Nov. 15, 1847), in Roscommon County, Ireland and Margaret E. (b. Jan.1, 1849, in Lowell, Mass) Norton. James and Margaret were married in 1874, Galesburg, Illinois. In early life he followed the occupation of railroad conductor, coming to Nebraska with his family in 1879, and settling on a farm 1 1/2 miles West of DeWitt where he continued to reside until 1908, when he moved to Crete, NE and engaged in the hotel business for a time and then went into the mercantile business. James lost Margaret June 15, 1916. James retired to private life in 1917 and he joined Margaret on February 2, 1923. James arrived in America in 1848 with his parents James and Ann Norton, with five other sibings. They settled in Lebanon Springs, New York, for ten years, then the Nortons moved to Galesburg Illinois.
