At the age of 14, she with her parents, John and Sarah DENNEY, removed to Lee County, Iowa. In 1850 she was married to David THORNBURG. To this union were given eleven children, all of whom are living and all were present, except Mrs. Emma HICKS. In 1873 she with her husband and family came to Western, which has been her home every since. Her husband preceeded her to the better land October 28, 1880. This brought to her a still larger share of the responsibilities of the home and the added care of the family. She was converted and united with the Methodist Church in Iowa in 1869. Through these years she has lived a devoted christian life. During the last six years her health has been poor, almost an invalid the most of the time. Last Sunday night she became worse, her strength failed slowly and on Thursday morning February 1, 1812, she peacefully passed away. Her christian experience was clear; two well worn Bibles in her home testify to the faith and comfort she found in the Book of life. She met life's cares and responsibilities with as unfaltering trust in God. Her last prayer was "that the Lord might bless all of her children" Thus she passed from her home here to her home beyond at the ripe age of 78 years, 9 months and 3 days. She leaves to mourn her departure all of her children: Rev. Jon THORNBURG, Western; Mrs. Rosetta GLASS, Fairfield; Eph. THORNBURG, Loveland, Col; Alonzo THORNBURG, Fairfield; Albert THORNBURG, Western; Mrs. Charlotte FROST, Fairbury; Mrs. Emma HICKS, Keokuk, Iowa; Mrs. Kate WARD, St. Paul, Neb; Mrs. Rheua PAGE, Geneva; Jacob THORNBURG, Western; Henry Thornburg, Western. The two latter have made their home with their mother. She also leaves 37 grand-children and 14 great grand children besides two brothers, Frank DENNEY and Eli DENNEY, of Lee Co., Iowa; also two sisters, Mrs. Ellen HAROLD, Beividere, and Mrs. Mary COWGILL, Clarks, Neb. That which was written of her mother when she died may likewise be said of her: "She has gone to be with Jesus And her loved ones on the other shore. Oh, how happy she must be, Since her sorrows all are o'er. She has gone to dwell with Jesus We cannot see her more, Unless we walk the narraw path That leads to the golden shore." Funeral services in charge of Rev. Charles BURNS were held in the Methodist church Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, after which the body was laid tenderly away in Plainview Cemetery. ------------ Those from out of town and not mentioned above were-- Mrs. E. THORNBURG, and daughter, Mrs. Vena APGAR and daughter Hazel, of Loveland, Colorado. Mr. H. S. PAGE and daughter, Faye, of Geneva, Neb. E. D. FROST and daughters, Leva, Bessie and Hazel, of Fairbury.
