I quote from a family history note of Elva Kerr Spiker, "Mary = Ann Brown came west with her other siblings. According to family = records she married Orlando Brown on 26 June 1856. The obituary of her = son Franklin Walter Brown indicates that she and Orlando were married in = PA. The same obituary has them moving to Illinois in 1868, but the stay = in Illinois was short, because they appear in the 1870 census in = Claytonville Township, Brown County, Kansas where the other siblings = stopped before moving on to Saline county, Nebraska. The family records = place them in Wheeling, PA Mercer Co., and mention a stay in Michigan = before moving to Robinson, Brown Co., KS. Mary and her husband Orlando and her child Franklin are in the 1880 Fed. = Census for Saline Co., NE. They are in the same place in the 1885 NE = State Census. Mary Ann and Orlando were living next to her brother = Henry Luther in 1880. Orlando took out a land patent on land next to = Henry Luther's (80 acres) in 1878, and sold the land in 1894. Franklin = Walter appears as a student on the school records (except for a curious = gap in 1875 and 1876). After 1879 May (Minnie) James, daughter of Mary = Ann's sister Hannah Luther, shows up in the school records as living in = the Orlando Brown household. Minnie after 1881 is called Minnie Brown. On the Surveyor's Record for Saline County in 1874, p. 35 , Orlando is = Chairman for a survey of some small homesteads for a Sarah brown and a = John Brown, perhaps some of his relatives? In 1895 the browns returned = to Kansas and took up residence in Rock Creek Township of Nemaha County, = in the vacinity of Sabetha, Kansas and lived there for the remainder of = their lives. I would be interested in finding out more information on the Henry = Luther family and Hannah Luther James. Also on the brown family = mentioned above. Thank you, Rebecca A.
