The dates of birthdays can be right. I know, that both brothers had a farm, but I don't know in which county. I suppose William was the more succesfull one. Posted on: Saline Co. Ne Obituaries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ne/SalineObits/10036 Surname: Brabec ------------------------- The Crete Democrat, July 10, 1889 John Brabec, A Prominent Citizen Crosses the Shadowless The sad intelligence of the death of Mr. Brabec reached our city Saturday. A respected citizen of Wilber has been summoned to appear before his Maker and he had answered the call. The angel of Death closed his eyes in the sleep that knows no waking on Sunday night at 10 o'clock. Mr. Brabec was a fine gentleman and his death will be mourned by hundreds of dear friends in Saline county. More than twenty-four years ago he settled in Saline county and took up a homestead alongside of that of Frank Nedela. Up to the time of his death the old place had not passed from his possession. His neighbors loved him, and those who had but a passing acquaintance with him respected him. For the past three years he has been a resident and prominient business man of Wilber - the proprietor of the opera house at that place. Dropsy was the cause of his death, and the internment took place in the old cemetery west of Wilber, a beautiful resting place, Sunday. Mr. Brabec was over fifty years of age. He leaves a wife and five children - three daughters and two sons - to whom we extend our heartfeld sympathy. (I have Brabec ancestors in Saline County but I'm not sure how or if John Brabec fits into my line. If any one knows more about John Brabec's family tree, please contact me.)

Have a slim chance of trying to find this, but hopefully someone out there might be familar with these names. Rachel Elizabeth Rose (went by Elizabeth - Rachel and Lizzy) was married to Oliver Broadwell in Jasper County Iowa on De. 1 1856. By the late 1860's she was in Saline County NE. 1873, Oliver died and is buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Most likely grave marked by a wooden cross and it was lost in a prairie fire. 1875, Rachel is given widow rights to the land. In 1877, Rachel was living in Lancaster County NE and sold the land to a Morris Vaughn or Vaughan Morris also of Lancaster County. In 1880, there isn't a Broadwell in Nebraska that matches the Broadwell names. In August of 1881, Lizzy White marries Alvin J. McGuire in Lincoln, no parents listed. But clue here is her father dies in 1882, and in 1883, a quit claim deed was filed and her name was listed as Mrs. Alvin J. McGuire (MeGuire) of Lancaster County. Rachel and Oliver Broadwell had the following children: Caroline (Cora?) Harvey, Eliza J. , Simeon and George. George married in Lancaster County in 1896 and in 1900 was in Hall County NE, 4th Ward of Grand Island Pct. ...... can't find any of the other children. On the marriage for Lizzy to McGuire, witnesses are Eliza J Van Auken and William Gillespie. I feel that Eliza J is her daughter..... but can't find a thing on the 1900 census for them. Is anyone out there have info that might help solve this puzzle! Did she divorce McGuire and remarry? Where did the other children go. Sorry for the long post! donna

To All; I asked for help and do appreciate the response. What I had in mind was someone to give assistance and or maintain the Genconnect board for Saline co. This is the Queries, Obits etc. I had a source for Obituaries for Saline co. Then between the source, the group of the NeGenWeb and several folks here, several copyright questions arose. There were many different views. So, I decided to abandon using them. My personal view is to use and if questioned remove same. Only time problems arise is when many other views come up. I have entered material or data in other counties with one complaint. It was church data of marriage and births above 1931. With this I removed all data above 1931 which made various folks content. With this I will say THANK YOU TO YOU VOLUNTEERS THAT DID OFFER HELP. I do my best to keep all data like squeeky clean. Fred Dethlefsen Saline co CC
