Charles parents were James C. and Margaret E. Norton. Charles was born in Galesburg, Illinois on June 26, 1875 and was baptized at the Corpus Christi Church on July 11, 1875. Charles married Martha Neumann (b. March 14, 1885) in 1901. We were always told Martha was sixteen when she got married to Charles. We have found no records on this marriage. We do not know where to check this out. Charles' parents James (b. Nov. 15, 1845, in Roscommon, Ireland) and Margaret (maiden name Sisk, b. Jan 1, 1849, in Lowell, Mass), were married in 1874, in Galesburg and moved to DeWitt, NE, in 1879. Charles Henry and Martha Elizabeth had twelve children: Lawrence Willard - b. March 19, 1904, Lincoln, NE Harold William - b. Nov. 18, 1906, DeWitt, NE Anna Margaret - b. Aug. 16, 1908, Clatonia, NE James Clifford - b. Nov. 3 1910, Gilead, NE Thelma Justina - b. In early life he followed the occupation of railroad conductor, coming to Nebraska with his family in 1879, and settling on a farm 1 1/2 miles West of DeWitt where he continued to reside until 1908, when he moved to Crete, NE and engaged in the hotel business for a time and then went into the mercantile business. James lost Margaret June 15, 1916. James retired to private life in 1917 and he joined Margaret on February 2, 1923. James arrived in America in 1848 with his parents James and Ann Norton, with five other sibings. They settled in Lebanon Springs, New York, for ten years, then the Nortons moved to Galesburg Illinois.
