I am sure if I look hard enough, I am related to this person as well as his wife................somewhere. ======================================================================= COLUMBUS Henry "Jack" Sokol, 79, of Columbus, died Friday, May 13, 2011, at Montclair in Omaha. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at St. Isidore Catholic Church, in Columbus, with the Rev. Joseph A. Miksch officiating. Interment will be in the All Saints Cemetery in Columbus, with military honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, with a 7 p.m. vigil, continuing 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday, all at St. Isidore Catholic Church. Henry "Jack" Sokol was born Jan. 19, 1932, in Platte County, to Leo C. and Helen (Czuba) Sokol. He went to grade school at St. Stanislaus in Duncan and graduated from Duncan High School in 1949. Henry "Jack" was in the Army from 1952-1954 serving in Korea in the 185th Combat Engineers, receiving the Korean Service Medal and two Bronze Stars. While in Duncan, Jack was an Officer of the Duncan Volunteer Fire Department serving as the secretary and later becoming and Honorary Member of the Department. He married Joan "Jo" Kosiba on June 5, 1960, at St. Stanislaus Church in Duncan. In 1960, they moved to Columbus where Jack was co-owner of Irrigation Pump Company from which he retired in 1990. Jack was co-founder of Columbus Hydraulics which is now owned by the Cimpl Family. He also was the co-founder of Husker Steel which is now owned by Mike Rowe. A charter member of St. Isidore's Church, Jack held the position of trustee, and later helped form the original parish council of which he was president. He was a money counter at St. Isidore's for 48 years and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for 14 years. In 2011, he was a 53-year member of the Knights of Columbus #938, 57-year member of the V.F.W. #3704 and a 34-year member in Hartman Post #84 American Legion. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #1195 and has over 50 years in the Cactus Club. He is survived by his wife, Joan "Jo" Sokol, of Columbus; son, Jerry (Carla) Sokol, of Grand Island; son, Jim (fiancee Rachel Lippert) Sokol, of Lincoln; sister, Mary Jane Van Berg, of Sun City, Ariz.; sister, Elsie Ball, of Overland Park, Kan.; sister-in-law, Jo (Mrs. Don) Sokol, of Columbus; grandchildren, Jeremy, of Lincoln, Christina (Jamie) Zima, of Lemoore, Calif., Catherine and Jeffrey, of Grand Island; and great-grandchildren, Aunika Joy and Tyler James Zima. He was preceded in death by his father, Leo C. Sokol; mother, Helen Sokol; brother, Emil Sokol; sister, Frances Sokol; brother, Donald A. Sokol.
