Tom...........I agree with alot of your post, but can't say that I have ever romanticized genealogy. Of course there were some members of the families who kind of kept us from romanticizing anything. My mom wishes I would have left well enough alone, , but I must say it explained alot to me. And our troubles mainly seemed to stem from a bottle. heh! True enough - Alcohol used in excess has always been a problem and it affects anyone. I've come to that conclusion long ago. Its a personal choice, a sickness, a disease when used to excess, and generally the problem is supressed by Family and friends. During my youth (several decades ago), it was more a social stigma to some, normality in the life of others. Its always the excessive use that causes problems. Its legal and will always be due to the fiasco with prohibition so the politicians won't touch the issue. I don't know if there is an answer to this problem, but today, the issue has to be more serious when one considers rampant drug use along with the alcohol.
