Hi Listers, I may have mentioned some time ago that I have several City Directories "on loan" - mostly from the 1960's. I have been working on entering the business addresses during that time period to track what businesses where at a particular address. Eventually I'll get pictures of more buildings and get those online as well. http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ne/county/platte/placestoc.html Scroll down to the Businesses section after Platte County Schools. This is by no means complete and I'm not going to attempt to make it complete. That would involve going through every city directory line by line to find all those "in-home" businesses, as well. Many moved over the years, however many stayed in the same location but show different names or addresses (probably due to postal changes). Addresses with "1/2" were typically on the second floor, but not always. As the years progressed, the town expanded and so did the businesses. For that reason, I'm not going to go beyond "downtown" at this time (with a couple of exceptions). If anyone has access to information prior to 1915, I would really appreciate a heads-up or loan of your source. I will try to sort through some of the information I have on the early businesses and improvements to see if I can determine with certainty where they were, but I'll need to feel confident about the exact business address before using that information. Also, the early buildings on 11th street were wood, one-story buildings and were rebuilt after the 1870's and early 1880's. Still, it would be interesting to be able to point to a certain location and say "that's where our ancestor had his business." If you have pictures of downtown businesses and know the location of that business, please consider sending it to me for use on the site. I will be happy to give you credit for submitting it. I do have a few pictures to scan and I will try to do that shortly. And, as always, if you find errors, please let me know. By the way, in looking for more information for someone this week, I learned that the 1910 and 1920 census records have street addresses (at least in the area I was looking on 11th street). I didn't check other areas of town, so I don't know if all the census takers followed suit. A great help if you're lucky enough to find an address!!!! I was trying to access some of your files on http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~usgenweb/ne/platte/platable.htm and kept getting the message file not there. How can I look at these files?
