Shirley..........God bless you for your ongoing projects!!! I know it sounded like I was being critical of whoever is transcribing but actually I wasn't. After reading the census and other images on the film for so many years (especially the church records) it is a wonder that people can decipher a decent amount. The handwriting and spelling (example the Nebraska 1885 census) are enough to blow your mind, but I am not even blaming the census takers. It must have been awful to try to figure out what people were telling them. At the Los Angeles Family History Library, I am getting used to a new staff again after the remodel, but my experience there, after going for 15 years is, that many of them come in not knowing much about doing genealogy themselves. They have to take classes, and have mainly done their own genealogy to start, but I find that most are not even as far along as the rest of us patrons there. Time may be a factor. They are mostly church members.........we don't get alot of volunteers.....because they house them next door, where they have a couple of apartment buildings. Some park their RV's and 5th wheelers in the lot. This bunch seems to be alot better than other years, as far as technology. I rarely ask them for things tho, because I have developed my own way of doing research and am ahead of them anyway. We have a guy who does paid genealogy but knows squat about ship manifests. I am glad I did things when I did, because my eyesight is not great anymore, and I can't sit a! s long. Anyway, I just wanted you to know that you are probably waaaaaay ahead of most anyway, given all of the cemeteries etc along with the other stuff. So they should treasure you!!!!!!
