    1. Re: [NEPLATTE] Strawberry Fields
    2. Tom - Good luck in your photo efforts - have you looked into posting your unknown photos on dead fred or ancient faces - both sites are free and have places to post unknown photos - I am working on planning a genealogy trip to NE and IA next spring. Am excited about going and doing first hand research - have not been able to find anyone to travel with me - they all say yes but come up with excuses and I have been trying to put this trip together for 3 years now - so am going alone if I have to - but am really excited to go - my youngest son has forbidden me to go alone and I told him - if you dont want me to go alone then take vacation and go with me - but I am not putting it off any longer - I am going - end of discussion - all of my research in NE will be in the counties of Nemaha, Richardson, York, Seward and Platte. I also plan on going to western Iowa on this trip and doing some research there as well. Just wish I had time to fit in KS and SD - but wont be able to on this trip - maybe in a couple of years - Does anyone have suggestions as to places to see and things to do while I am there - I havent been in NE since I was a child - and believe me - that was many many years ago. Our system seems to be working. The digital photo's are exchanged within our group and unknown photo's are slowly being identified and so entitled on a CD for posterity. If anyone is interested, I'll be glad to explain our process. Throughout, we've got some photo's that we can't identify, it seems that most are from Family's other than Lasseks, some with identification, some not. It's here that possibly others may benefit as well. We'd like to both identify them and give originals to appropriate Family members. Towards this goal, I will put their likeness on a site (still looking) available to all who may care to examine them. With some small exceptions, once identified, I'll send the originals to the Family (or to whomever is identified for receipt). All I will need is an address - I'll pay the postage (random act of kindness). It's a "win win" situation and I hope all will participate. On the first CD circulated, Ron Lassek identified the last photo of my Great Grandfather Walenty Lasek whose photograph was taken in his coffin at the cemetery. This is only the second of two known photo's of Walenty existing today - a super find. Once I have this finalized with photo's I'll put the web site here on email to all for viewing. Thanks. 3. Diane - I appreciate the info for unknown photo's. I thought that probably somewhere up on the web there would be such a site or sites. I PC8 the referral. Good for you - visiting Nebraska. Make it a worthwhile trip and plan it out as best you can. I think you are on a good list for this "excursion". A good portion of "Genies" are located in Nebraska. You need to marry up with them - a bribe would be good (chuckle). Just tell them you'll buy the first beer !! Seriously, go while you can. No one's getting any younger in preparation for the excursion, if you follow my drift. "Forbidden You To Go" ??? Wrong thing for him to say if you ask me. That would probably firm up your resolve more than anything else. If I were in your city I'd go with you. It would be a blast. A couple things that I have learned on these "outings" with respect to genealogy. Take your good digital and become familiar with the "taking a movie" section. You won't regret it. Another thing would be for you to take one of these small modern tape recorders that you keep in your pocket. Today, they'll record for somewhere around 150 hours or more before it's filled up. The thing is that you'll talk to lot's of people and see lot's of things and you only get one good shot at some of this stuff. A lot of the info that's given to you will be lost, even if you try and write it down. One's memory is not all that "exact" either. Lastly, if you have the room, take some of those old photographs we all have in shoe boxes. You may well indeed find out who they are or at least you'll get lot's of good stories for posterity. This will also prompt others to take out their old photo's as well. When they do, you can always take a high resolution of the photo. Again, the best way to plan this out, in my opinion, is to contact fellow genealogists here on this list and ask for their help and referrals as to where to look. All of us can surely offer a day or two individually in pursuit of our hobby. Nothing like a "Random Act of Kindness" to cement relationships. You can have some fun with your youngest son if you want to put things into perspective (chuckle). In passing, just tell him that you are considering the purchase of a Harley Davidson Motorcycle so you can view the country in the way it was meant to be seen. Hehehehehehe - betcha that he'll take that vacation - (smile).
