Hello all,I need some help with finding a divorce document for Samuel Reinke ~ 1879.Sherri Brakenhoff sent me a court granted judgement from the 1879 newspaper.Would this document have been archived in another location?Thank you,Bill Thoendel From: [email protected] Subject: old divorce file Date: Fri, 26 Aug 2011 09:05:38 -0500 My name is Suzy Engel, a records Clerk at the Platte County District Court. I found the file listed in the index that you were looking for, but when I went to get the file upstairs in the courthouse where we keep all these old files, that particular one #434 was missing along with some others in that drawer. For whatever reason, some of these really old files are not there, must have been taken out for some reason years ago and not put back in. I am really sorry we couldn’t find it, I looked in the drawer before and after, thought maybe it was misfiled, but it was not there. Suzy Engel Mit freundlichen Grüßen 再见。 MrBill
Hello all - Nothing like a genealogical mystery to keep one's blood flowing, no ?? Thinking about this a bit, it would be reasonable to state that Mr. Bill's records and others were removed from their repository and used in support of another legal action somewhere within the system and were kept as part of that action under file. No Xerox machines back then. Either that or it was simply misfiled, but the odd's don't favor a misfiling since others have their records missing as well. I'm wondering if possibly the records were refiled under the surname of the other spouse involved ?? The file must have been there on the date that the index was made or it wouldn't be noted. I am a bit surprised in that the standard file separator (various sizes and colors) wasn't put in when the file was removed so as to indicate that the file was removed for another action. Again, it wouldn't be logical to assume that someone simply stole the file as other files are in the same predicament. The mystery continues.
