    2. Happy St. Paddy's Day to all! I know that everyone celebrates it, so you don't have to be Irish! Thanks for all of the translations, Tom! I won't comment on the idea of you in green tighties! lol Your comment on Irish red necks is incorrect tho, as there are huge numbers of people in the South descended from the Irish and Scotch. The Irish have a long history there, not always for the right reasons. I think I have read also, that a good deal of the mountain music is taken from the folk music from the British Isles. Yesterday, I went to my parish senior club meeting, where we celebrated St. Patty's Day with mostly Kentucky Colonel and salads. lol Most of the women are tired of cooking! There was alot of green around though, even among the guys, who we call our Mexican Mafia! Today I will go to my club in Santa Monica, where we will have food cooked......I believe Irish Stew is on the menu. Also, (something I have not encountered before or thought of) a couple of the women are originally from Northern Ireland, so insist on wearing The Orange! In other words.....Protestants! Not sure if they celebrated St. Patrick, a bishop of the Catholic church.....or not! Have a great day, everyone. 3. Growing up, and not being Irish, my brothers and sisters decided that we would wear red on St. Patrick's day in honor of our Polish heritage and St. Joseph, who was the Polish patron saint and who's day is a couple days later on March 19th. Of course us girls had a little green in the school uniform, but we made sure we had red sweaters, and red socks. Of course we would wear red again a couple days later, but then, we lived in Nebraska, and had lots of red! To this day, I have to admit, I still tend to wear red than green on this day! 3. Thanks! I've used this website before, and can spend a multitude of hours finding information. What I didn't think about, though, was looking at the ads in those early newspapers. What a help in my quest for the businesses located in downtown Columbus in those years! Many only have descriptions (one block west of Clother House, e.g.), but it should still help, because some actually give addresses. I've been taking notes from 1878 newspapers and will try to draw a sketch of who was where, then post what I find. What fun!
