Hi all. I have scanned and posted over 90 portraits from the Susie Pinson Bower collection, along with a brief history of her family. Many of these photos are not identified. If you find any that you recognize, please let me know so I can add their names to the description. See: http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ne/county/platte/bowerphotos.html Sherri Brakenhoff - [email protected] NEGenWeb, Platte Co Coordinator - http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ne/county/platte/ NEGenWeb, Colfax Co Coordinator - http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ne/county/colfax/ Sherri's Family Findings - http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sherri/
Tom, go to this site (Platte County site that Sherri continues to add to). When you are on the front or beginning page, go to the bottom where the rolling eyes are and type in Rosno. It will bring up several that you can click on and read. I just did a quick look and saw a Joseph.....Shirley http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ne/county/platte/index.html
Halo ! I recall a few Rosno's around the Columbus area - early pioneers. Of these Rosno's, was there a John and a Joseph ?? Tomas
Third try (yes, I have trouble having my email to rootsweb lists rejected, too!) ....... Hello everyone! Several new photos have been posted this a.m. If you have family from the Cornlea area, be sure to check these out and see if you can help identify anyone. Cris - Sounds to me as if you can do with a Ladies night out, when, after an excess of libation, you can freely bring high P upon the gods of genealogy to your hearts content. Actually, your knowledge of William's service in the Spanish American War may serve you well because now you can request a copy of his service and pension records. I've done this for a Guncle ( hehe great uncle) and there's a goodly amount of personal information contained therein. At that time there was no charge. https://eservices.archives.gov/orderonline/start.swe?SWEFullRefresh=1&SWECmd=Login&_sn=-Q8XATwbtRWIFxhnZEJs7kdOtCKyBrlQ5.P0YX59qZ8_&SWECM=S&SWEHo=eservices.archives.gov&SWETS=1302713698 This will take you (hopefully) to the NARA where you can order online. You want both PENSION and SERVICE records. There are other ways to order them but this appears the easiest. It even says that the committal was taken care of by someone from the Vets. Today is the 150th anniversary of the start of the Civil War......hence all the coverage I guess :) .........and tonight on National Geographic, there is a movie called The Conspirator, which is supposedly a factual account of a woman who was involved in the assassination of Pres. Lincoln. KathyB ____________________________________________________________ Groupon™ Official Site 1 ridiculously huge coupon a day. Famiy Tree magazine also has info on the civil war: If you go to _www.familytreemagazine.com_ (http://www.familytreemagazine.com) - on the left side of the page you will see the current issue which you can view online - Chris - it also has Irish genealogy links in the current issue as well as a podcast on the homepage about doing Irish research -
The Journal Star has more on the Civil War today and will run stories on that subject for a week, very good reading. Journal Star is the Lincoln Nebraska Paper. Dove
To the list: After sending the copies of the Berghahn obit to the lady at Crosby etc funeral home, I received the reply that she had checked the records again, and found that they only go back to 1968, and she doesn't know where earlier records are. We are certainly lucky that the funeral homes in Columbus, as well as some others, have kept their records! Marge.........yesterday I was telling my mom about you. The response to Bill about research in Silesia is an example of why you absolutely amaze me. I cannot imagine how you have done so much research, let alone posted unbelievable amounts on the net. I am in awe of both you and Sherri especially, but I know there are many others, like Monica, and my cuz Diane, who have vast amounts of genealogy records and really pay it forward. God bless all of you. William........thanks for the link to the video! We had covered this subject quite awhile back, but I didn't know there was a video like this. Wonderful! May as well include the link to one of the many sites on this subject. http://npcanteen.net/ ____________________________________________________________ Mortgage Rates Hit 2.99% If you owe under $729k you probably qualify for Gov't Refi Programs http://thirdpartyoffers.juno.com/TGL3141/4da355dd2d5b773a79st01duc
Dovesky........ Thanks for the headsup on the Civil War articles! Very interesting indeed. My husbands great grandfather, Peter Bomberger (3rd), was in the Civil War out of Illinois, along with his brothers in law Holloway and Cox. His sister, Susan Cox, served as a nurse. This will make me go back and revisit those stories. They all settled in Johnson Co. Ne. To the list: I received an e-mail back from the funeral home that is listed in William Berghahn's obit. The woman there was not able to find any evidence of his burial from that funeral home. Boo! She said that the family might just have put the obit in the paper to notify friends and family, but why put the name of a funeral home? It also lists West Lawn cemetery as the burial place. Waiting to hear from them. Perhaps I should send her the copy of the obit? Also, the Illinois records are spotty for really early settlers.
