    1. Re: [NEPLATTE] genealogy tales
    2. List:...................in the Columbus Telegram this morning is a story about Germans or those of German descent whose ancestors were involved in the Holocaust. It is a sad tale of finding that your ancestor might have been a "monster" as one man said. Truly illustrated the old saying"the sins of the fathers are visited on the children". http://columbustelegram.com/news/world/europe/article_c44601d3-61b2-5384-9b72-dd6ded87bf7f.html ========================================================================= On a message board that I go to...not genie related....there are a few people who do genealogy too. One of the women had gone on a trip to see a concert, and while driving through a certain state, stopped at a cemetery to try and find her 3 great grandparents graves. She said she had no luck, until she tripped over one, fell face first on the ground, and while looking up, spotted a name behind some bushes that had grown over a stone. There they were! She asked the cemetery workers to cut down the bushes around the stone so she could take a picture. KathyB ____________________________________________________________ 2550% Penny Stock Gains? 3. You left this feller (Bob) hanging on for 11 years ?? As known, I'm very discrete about stuff like this, however, I did notice that when I left Alaska, this feller Bob was mentioned in passing even back then. The mystery is now solved based on good genealogical research. So, I see you neglected to tell us what your new surname might be. I can only conclude that you will be blessed with a Polish surname, something along the line of KRZGHTELPGONSKI, or something similar, and that you aren't quite comfortable in spelling it as of yet. I will do my best to be in Merced County around the 9th of July, however, we'll probably have to kiss and hug when I introduce Lucy and myself (Married 41 years), so Bob will probably get jealous, as most Polish men would. I'm thinking that may have to extend my stay for medical reasons. I'm sure that I would benefit tremendously to a regimen of medical marijuana for my many ills and pains. 3. Hi - http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001434677311 is the URL at Facebook that I was speaking of. There's really nothing there, only a page. Here are a few more with the moniker. I'm really not sure what to make of them. They don't appear European in origin so it opens up genealogy for New Braska in an entirely new vein. It would be interesting to view their Family history. http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000707581455 http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001102805796 http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001434677311 €€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€ A note here on another subject. I see that my iPad has a mind of it's own, and after looking at some of my emails, I'm not so sure that this is a good thing. It has a tendency to "correct" anything I type if it feels that the word is misspelled. I have to catch it and "recorrect", and sometimes I miss it. The word "Tomasz" is printed as "To Ass" of all things (blush), so I apologize for the Apple Corporation. Tomasz

    2. Tom........I don't know how you found that ships list with that mention of New Braska, but kudos to you! Although, you would think by the 1930 census they would have known the difference. ======================================================================= The Omaha, Oto, Pawnee and Ponca are just a few of the Indian tribes which settled in the Nebraska region. Nebraska owes its state name to a Native American language. Meaning According to the Dictionary of American History, "Nebrathka" is an Oto word meaning "flat water." "Nebrathka" refers to one of Nebraska's main rivers, the Platte, which is long, but flat and easy to cross. Explorers John C. Fremont is most often given credit for naming Nebraska. Sponsored by the U.S. Congress, he led a survey team to map the Oregon Trail, part of which runs through Nebraska. Historical Record The first U.S. written record of the word "Nebraska" comes from Fremont to Congress in his survey report in 1842. Fremont called the Platte River "the Nebraska River" in his report. Platte or Nebraska In 1844, Fremont also mentioned the importance of the Nebraska River to Secretary of War William Wilkins. Wilkins said the region should be named either Nebraska or Platte, but chose "Nebraska" to represent the area. ____________________________________________________________ Pres Reduces Mortgages Mortgage Rates Hit 2.99% Calculate New Payment Now! http://thirdpartyoffers.juno.com/TGL3141/4dc816375d8e9347344st02duc
