    3. Tom,I perfectly understand your hesitations in submitting your gedcom to just any site that will claim it as their property. I too have avoided downloading my gedcom to any site. And, even with the lds site, I didn't download my gedcom, but have just entered in part of my direct line. This sounds like a VERY VERY BIG project for the Platte County site. I have always said to others that I am very lucky that the Platte county website is a gold mine of data as well as the people on their mailing list. This would put them leaps and bounds over all other county websites! But I have to go take some ibuprofen now, as I have a huge headache just thinking about how much work this would take!!! > From: [email protected] > Date: Sat, 28 May 2011 02:21:01 -0500 > To: [email protected] > Subject: [NEPLATTE] LDS Merging Software - > > Cousin Monica - > > I'm sure that my recommendation for consideration is not a new and hot issue. The nice thing about this is that no one can search for anyone still living in my file, so once someone is merged from my file to someone else's, they still will not be able to view anyone's information in my file who is still living. Overall, I think it is a good program and does what you have suggested. But as this becomes available to all, I would also caution people to keep their own genealogy in a separate program as well as using that one. And, as always when dealing with other people's family file submissions, take it as a clue or a lead to further your research. NEVER add the information until you have VERIFIED their information. 3. I like the idea of creating a massive gedcom of Platte County people. We'd probably have a lot of separate files at first, then be able to merge them as different lines marry (probably more recent ones). Without including living people, though, we might not see as much of that, as I think ethnic and religious groups stayed more within their defined boundaries 100+ years ago. In any event, we'd need to find another source to locate the gedcom if that should ever come to fruition. Rootsweb (and probably USGenNet, too), doesn't allow gedcoms. One of the very few restrictions. I do agree that it would be a time-consuming venture if it is going to be done "right." Without documentation, any discrepancies would be hard to verify. And without documentation of some sort, how could a decision be made between two dates/spellings, etc. Sounds problematic. But, if someone wants to volunteer, I'd certainly submit my family trees ;>) I'm assuming these would not be carried back beyond those who once lived in Platte county. That would be even more difficult. At least documentation should be available for most of our "local" families...... 1. Re: [NEPLATTE] Cucmber dish
    2. Thomas E. Lassek
    3. Howdie - I would have to say that this dish, in some form, plus or minus, is probably not ethnic specific. In the end, it would be a simple matter, even in a controlled society under the feudal system, for the poorest of peasants to "harvest" the seeds of one cucumber and the seeds of one onion. The same would hold true in most common vegetable staples I would surmise, then the ethnic societies would vary forms of consumption eventually finding a dish that most seem to like. So, in a way then, some of these recipes work their way towards "National Dish" status. Cucumber Dish Variant ~ Slicing cucumber Mild onion Dill Soy sauce Apple cider vinegar Peel cucumber and onion, slicing both a little thicker than normal. In a non metallic bowl mix them together then add dill. Cover them with a mixture of 1/2 Soy sauce and 1/2 Apple cider vinegar. Let stand in refrigerator for a few hours. If you like this dish, as is or in a varied form, you can make enough for a gallon jar and keep in the fridge over the winter. Lay a common cellophane sandwich bag across the top of the jar, then put the jar cap on. You can get a gallon jar from almost any restaurant or fast food place free. They buy stuff in bulk and when empty, they just throw the jar away. 3. Hello to the Great, Great, Platte County Email List !! Today I've had a thought - only one thought, but a thought nonetheless. I've come to the realization that the lineage of a good portion of original Platte County Pioneers has been researched and is well documented through the efforts of individual genealogists. Additionally, several Family Trees are today, archived via Gedcom protocol. I'm wondering if anyone has given thought to putting all this information into one main Gedcom file, tying them all together. The information is already there, it just hasn't been assembled. I'm thinking that it would be a first if it were done, and it could be updated as new research results become available. Now, THAT would be genealogy at it's best, a worthy undertaking. Since I have a crystal ball and can see the future (Ahem), I would think that a group of volunteers would be formed under one individual who directs the effort and this person would author the Massive Gedcom file. Volunteers would obtain and input information to the author. A community effort could make this work. I would volunteer but can't author since I'm too old (63). Chris would be a good author but don't think she'll be available. An 11 year engagement probably means a 30 year honeymoon so it would be somewhere around 2041 before she could start (Smile). Childhood Dish from my Past 1 slicing cucumber 1 medium mild onion Apple Vinegar Container of Sour Creme Dill Weed (NOT Dill Seed) Peel and thinly slice the cucumber and the onion into a nonmetallic bowl. Since the use of Dill Weed and Apple Vinegar is a personal preference, I can't give exact measurements, however, it's best to add sparingly at this point. Mix it all up, then add the sour creme. Thin with milk as desired. Here, do some taste tests and add Apple Vinegar and Dill Weed as required, if required. Refrigerate for a few hours, mix, then serve. Here, personal preferences direct salt and pepper usage, but salt is usually required. Use over Baked, Boiled or Fried potatoes. I think Fried is the best. Tomasz

    3. LOL Tom, what's being 63 got to do with it! I'll be there in a few short years.I nominate YOU! Only a week honeymoon. Bob has taken a job with better pay , benefits and 60 miles closer to home so this will be the only time he has for a year... so get busy Tom.It sounds like an awesome project right up your alley. Hey why isn't Dean weighing in on this. Between the both of you it would be factual.... and comical! Cris On Thu, May 26, 2011 at 12:13 PM, Thomas E. Just then the back door opened, A man came down the aisle, The minister frowned as he saw The man hadn't shaved in a while.* * His shirt was kinda shabby And his coat was worn and frayed, The man knelt, he bowed his head, Then rose and walked away. In the days that followed, Each noon time came this chap, Each time he knelt just for a moment, A lunch pail in his lap. Well, the minister's suspicions grew, With robbery a main fear, He decided to stop the man and ask him, 'What are you doing here?' The old man said, he worked down the road. Lunch was half an hour. Lunchtime was his prayer time, For finding strength and power.* * 'I stay only moments, see, Because the factory is so far away; As I kneel here talking to the Lord, This is kinda what I say: 'I JUST CAME AGAIN TO TELL YOU, LORD, HOW HAPPY I'VE BEEN, SINCE WE FOUND EACH OTHERS FRIENDSHIP AND YOU TOOK AWAY MY SIN. DON'T KNOW MUCH OF HOW TO PRAY, BUT I THINK ABOUT YOU EVERYDAY. SO, JESUS, THIS IS MIKE CHECKING IN TODAY.' The minister feeling foolish, Told Mike, that was fine. He told the man he was welcome To come and pray just anytime Time to go, Mike smiled, said 'Thanks.' He hurried to the door. The minister knelt at the altar, He'd never done it before. His cold heart melted, warmed with love, And met with Jesus there. As the tears flowed, in his heart, He repeated old Mike's prayer: 'I JUST CAME AGAIN TO TELL YOU, LORD, HOW HAPPY I'VE BEEN, SINCE WE FOUND EACH OTHERS FRIENDSHIP AND YOU TOOK AWAY MY SIN. I DON'T KNOW MUCH OF HOW TO PRAY, BUT I THINK ABOUT YOU EVERYDAY. SO, JESUS, THIS IS ME CHECKING IN TODAY.' Past noon one day, the minister noticed That old Mike hadn't come. As more days passed without Mike, He began to worry some. At the factory, he asked about him, Learning he was ill.* * The hospital staff was worried, But he'd given them a thrill. The week that Mike was with them, Brought changes in the ward. His smiles, a joy contagious. Changed people, were his reward. The head nurse couldn't understand Why Mike was so glad, When no flowers, calls or cards came, Not a visitor he had. The minister stayed by his bed, He voiced the nurse's concern: No friends came to show they cared. He had nowhere to turn. Looking surprised, old Mike spoke Up and with a winsome smile; 'the nurse is wrong, she couldn't know, That he's in here all the while* * Everyday at noon He's here, A dear friend of mine, you see, He sits right down, takes my hand, Leans over and says to me:* * 'I JUST CAME AGAIN TO TELL YOU, MIKE, HOW HAPPY I HAVE BEEN, SINCE WE FOUND THIS FRIENDSHIP, AND I TOOK AWAY YOUR SIN.* * ALWAYS LOVE TO HEAR YOU PRAY, I THINK ABOUT YOU EACH DAY, AND SO Mike, THIS IS JESUS CHECKING IN TODAY.'* * If this blesses you, pass it on. Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only true friends will leave footprints in your heart May God hold you in the palm of His hand And Angels watch over you. Please pass this page on to your friends & loved ones. If you aren't ashamed. Jesus said,* * ' If you are ashamed of me,' I will be ashamed Of you before my Father.' If you are not ashamed, pass this on.* * ** So, FRIEND, this is ME ... "Just Checking In Today"* -- Life may not be the party we hoped for.. But while we're here we might as well dance !

    3. As soon as I get some time to get to the courthouse here in Columbus I will see what I can find for records for the school. I did take some great pictures with my camera the last time I was there rather than paying 50 cent for every copy and bothering the girls in the office downstairs. So, that is what I will try again and see what I can come up with. Be patient, it won't be right away. Got too many irons in the fire the next couple of weeks and class reunion coming up Memorial Weekend. Guess I am telling my age but we celebrate 50 years this year from Genoa....Shirley
