Cheryl, You are a dear to do these look-ups. If it isn't too much trouble could you look and see if you have any Hardins (en), Petersens (on) or Bufords. Thanks much, Fern
Sorry i have only the 1920 book. Cheryl
To listers, sorry but I just answered about this subject, did not realize to answer privately. Thank you, Charlene Tobin Rodriguez
Hi Bob, I can not expand on this subject, except to say your ancestor was telling you the truth, I am 68 years old and when I was in grammar school, I had to wear one of those bags around my neck and I tell you they really did stink. Strange thing is sometimes I still got sick. You can bet that my children did not wear these. Regards, Charlene Tobin Rodriguez
Hi everyone, well I have added a new page to Lancaster County, NE webpages and this is for old postcards that pertain to Lancaster County, of course! I would love to hear from any of you who have scanned images of postcards that you have and would like to share with others. Please be sure to write to me before sending any scanned images. You can write to me off the list at NelliBlu28@aol.com I am also hoping that maybe some of you might be willing to have your names listed as lookup volunteers for Lancaster County, as I do not have any at this time and I am not able to do so myself. You can contact me and let me know if you live in or near the State Archives in Lincoln or if you just have certain books that are Lancaster County related, like marriage index, death index, etc or if you have any other materials to aid others in their research. Thanks so much for your time and I hope you all have much luck in your family research! Old Postcards of Lancaster County, NE http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~irishrose/postcards.html I also added an index to the Nebraska Ancestree articles that are related to Lancaster County, since there are several now. Ne Queries Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Ne/Lancaster/10568 Surname: SMITH, SHARKEY, PHEGLEY, SHACKELFORD, MITCHELL ------------------------- My grandpa, William L. Smith was born to Andy and Margaret Sharkey Smith in Lincoln, Nebraska, June 8, 1902. His grandparents were Oscar Smith and Lizzie Phegley Smith, I have no clue where they were from. Grandpa and his parents went to Oregon at some point, settling around the coast. I don't know if Oscar and Lizzie went at that time or not. William had a sister, Lottie. Andy had some brothers, Amos, George and possibly another one. I have a picture of the Sharkey siblings, Margaret (Marguerite), Tom, Jack, and on the cardboard frame, Israel Wichita Kansas is imprinted (photographers?), so don't know if they are from there or not. I have a picture of Andy and Margaret (Marguerite) Sharkey Smith with Andy's mom, Lizzie Phegley, and two of my grandpa Bill's cousins, Lester Phegley and Albert Phegley and a little girl cousin, Dorothy Shackleford. He wrote on the picture that Lester was a gambler, and Albert hated women. The picture was taken in Canemuk, OR. I found a note that said that Marguerite was raised by a family of Quaker's by the name of Mitchell. She was Irish/German. That's it! I have no more family to go to for info and am new to looking, but loving it. I hate to see the history die. Help! Speaking personally Charlene and hoping Kathie agrees, I see no reason at all for your apology. I will say the Nebraska Heritage list expands quite well on a subject such as this and anything that comes down the pike BTW, Charlene I looked for a Shafer school that would have been in existence one time in Nebraska and came up empty ----- Original Message ----- From: <CRodri9794@aol.com> To: <NELANCAS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, May 18, 2001 9:43 PM Subject: [NELANCAS] ASAPHIDIPY BAG > To listers, sorry but I just answered about this subject, did not realize to > answer privately. Some of the census are very poor on ancestry, and imagine that they are the same as on the reels of film also. I don't have a FHC near me to do a search on the 1900 census for Saline County Nebraska that might give me a clue as to what precinct to even look in! I appreciate any ones suggestions on this! donna
Hello Donna: I am sorry - I don't have the CD - I had done a soundex search for the name that I was looking for and on the film that I ordered from the Family History Center it gave the name, people living in the household - age and birth of the head of the household. The reason I posted my inquiry is that I am trying to avoid going through endless pages of the census available on Ancestry. Maybe someone will respond and you can get some ideas from the postings - if I get any - lol. sorry I can't be of more help - Ahlive
May I ask where you got your 1900 census CD??? I have been going thru precinct by precinct for Saline county Nebraska in 1900, and can't locate my Mckinzey and Rose family. Name is William Rose and wife was Mary, maybe you could help me with a precinct?? thanks donna
Hello All: Would anyone have a map of the enumeration districts in either 1910 or 1920? I have my ancestors in the 1900 census ED # 51 but when I went to the census available on Ancestry for 1910 or 1920 I did not see them listed so the ED was probably changed. The street I am looking for is Sycamore. Thank you for any help - Ahlive
I found the answer for Bob and sent it on to him privatley - if anyone wants to know let me know OFF LIST maryhbrock@earthlink.net Mary
