Don married when he was already in his late 20's. He was not married at the time he was in the Federal prison. Remember -- he was in the service at the time of his arrest and conviction and was dishonorably discharged. Therefore no Veteran's benefits so can't track him down that way. In Nebraska the Vital Records department requires full name of both spouses for a marriage or divorce record copy to be issued. I DON'T know what his wife's surname was so I am unable to get anywhere with this. Also can't get a birth certificate on the son unless I have the complete name of the person and their birth date --- something I also do not have. 3. Kathie Unless you know positively that you can't, I would try to get the divorce decree. With his name and approximate date, as well as her first name you might find it. It should be filed both ways. I think they'll do a little searching. I'd also like to congratulate you on the Lancaster Co genweb page it is terrific! I hadn't been there for awhile and last night I visited it looking for some information. It has changed and is great. Thanks for your hard work. 1. [NELANCAS] Missing Uncle -- A Mystery
    2. Hi all, My mystery is what happened to my Dad's brother? His name: Donald Joseph Harrison, born in Lincoln, NE Feb. 2, 1936 and when he was 19 (in the Army) he very stupidly held up a post office at gunpoint and was arrested, convicted and put in the Ft. Leavenworth prison. He later came back to Lincoln and worked for a bread company and married a woman named Jane (her last name is not known) in a typical "shotgun wedding", she being pregnant. I remember seeing their new son when he was a few weeks old, which was just a month before my dad died of cancer (at the age of 31) -- I was 8 at the time. My Mom does not remember what the baby's name was or what Jane's maiden name was. Don and Jane divorced shortly after the birth of their son. Don disappeared in Oct. 1965 right after my Mom remarried. He called his sister a few months later and said he was calling from Acapulco and that he was leaving for Australia and never coming back. We do not believe he went there. He neither had the money to afford a trip like that and was apparently drunk when he had called my aunt. No one has ever heard from him again and if he is still living, he missed his father's death and funeral, and also the rest of his siblings deaths except for his youngest sister who has not seen him in over 30 years. Can anyone tell me how I could find out what his wife's maiden name was or his son's name? Since it is unlikely that I can get a divorce record without her surname, I can't find out who she was. As for the boy, I have scanned the microfilmed newspapers for my area for the month he would have been born and also for the months before and after but no birth is found. I would like to be able to find my uncle and also the cousin I saw only once. This boy would be close to my younger brother's age now. Any suggestions or help is appreciated. 3. Kathie, your story is slightly familiar........I wont get into it though. How about getting the marriage lic and then, knowing her maiden name, you can also get their sons birth certificate. 1. [NELANCAS] Lancaster County, NE WWI Honor Roll additions
    2. The Lancaster County, NE WWI Honor Roll book has had 40 more photos and biographies added. This is an ongoing and lengthy project and I will add more as time allows. There are now over 1000 photos online with short bios. This book was large and has over 350 pages. Each webpage for the book consists of about 4-7 pages from the book. Please be patient while I scan photos and transcribe the bios, as this book was mostly in alphabetical order with a few exceptions. I am still on the B's. Please visit often to look for new additions to these pages. You can access the book by either going to the Lancaster County Resources page and clicking on the Veterans Index link <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~irishrose/lancresources.html> or go to the following link: < http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~irishrose/honor/lancww1vetscover.html > Have a nice day ~ Kathie Harrison Lancaster County Coordinator, NEGenWeb http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~irishrose/lancindex.html Harrison Roots & Branches http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~irishrose/index.html All incoming and outgoing e-mail is passed through the most recent Norton Antivirus definitions to assure viruses are not passed.

    1. [NELANCAS] From Listowner
    2. This is being forwarded with permission. It is good advice and I wanted all list members to read this. <<Happy new year! Each January we see a huge influx of newbies joining us online because Santa was generous and left a sparkling new computer under the tree. There are also many after-holidays sales which offer people the opportunity to purchase a snazzy new computer or modem. Many people get online for the first time and enthusiastically don their cyber-bikinis, hitting the surf with gusto. They are excited to be here and they are (much as we "oldbies" were) rightfully overwhelmed by all that there is to see and do. The language here is foreign to them. The technology is newer, fancier and zippier than they may have used in the past. And the way that we all participate in our giant, online genealogical society, while being very similar to offline groups, is still a bit different than they may be prepared for. In other words, it is a brave new world to them. I would like to put out a call to each of you to show these newbies that we are a friendly, welcoming and helpful group of online genealogists. To do so we all need to pitch in and show patience, understanding and kindness. We also need to put on our teaching caps and be prepared to show them the ropes. 1. Don't make assumptions. 2. Explain things in detail, include URLs and complete instructions. 3. Verify details and addresses before you send them to people. 4. Offer to help people privately via e-mail, off of the mailing lists. 5. Be prepared to explain things more than once, in more than one way. 6. Keep in mind that we were all new at one time. 7. Keep in mind that we all learn something new every day. 8. Reach out to your fellow researchers and set a good example. There are several places online to which you can point newbies in order to help them learn about this new research venue. I have tried to make these easy to locate by setting up links on my site: Internet Stuff You Need To Know http://www.CyndisList.com/internet.htm Beginners (to genealogy) http://www.CyndisList.com/beginner.htm Also be sure to point them to these basic starting places online: Cyndi's List of Genealogy Sites on the Internet http://www.CyndisList.com Your genealogical research portal onto the Internet RootsWeb http://www.RootsWeb.com See the RootsWeb Help Desk: http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/ FamilySearch Internet Genealogy Service http://www.familysearch.org/ Genealogy Resources on the Internet - Mailing Lists http://www.rootsweb.com/~jfuller/gen_mail.html Complete list of all genealogy mailing lists online Good luck and successful surfing to everyone online - both newbies and oldbies, Cyndi http://www.CyndisList.com>> Have a nice day ~ Kathie Harrison Lancaster County Coordinator, NEGenWeb http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~irishrose/lancindex.html Harrison Roots & Branches http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~irishrose/index.html Listowner of Rootsweb Mail Lists: NELANCAS-L, NEDIXON-L, NESAUNDE-L, MEDICAL-GENEALOGY-L; surname lists - BLUNT-L, BRICE-L, BRODY-L, CALDWELL-L, LILLIBRIDGE-L and WEITZEL-L See the Mail List Jump page for the links to these list home pages: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~irishrose/lists.html All incoming and outgoing e-mail is passed through the most recent Norton Antivirus definitions to assure viruses are not passed.
