Dear Grace- There are a number of my BASSLER relatives buried at Wyuka Cemetery. I would be very grateful if you might have the opportunity at a time which would be convenient for you to take pictures of their tombstones. If such could be the case let me know, and I can send you their names. I do have some records from the cemetery. Thanks in advance. Ed Bassler ----- Original Message ----- From: "Grace L. CAN I SUBSCRIBE USING ONE ADDRESS AND POST FROM ANOTHER? Contact your List Administrator to be put on the accept list. This will allow you to post from this address to a closed list but you will not receive list mail at it. If you wish to receive list mail and post from two addresses, then just subscribe both addresses to the list. To reach the list administrator, send a message to the address shown below. Substitute the list name for the xxx. xxx-admin@rootsweb.com Have a nice day ~ Kathie Harrison Lancaster County Coordinator, NEGenWeb http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~irishrose/lancindex.html Harrison Roots & Branches http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~irishrose/index.html Listowner of Rootsweb Mail Lists: NELANCAS-L, NEDIXON-L, NESAUNDE-L, MEDICAL-GENEALOGY-L; surname lists - BLUNT-L, BRICE-L, BRODY-L, CALDWELL-L, LILLIBRIDGE-L and WEITZEL-L See the Mail List Jump page for the links to these list home pages: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~irishrose/lists.html All incoming and outgoing e-mail is passed through the most recent Norton Antivirus definitions to assure viruses are not passed.
I SENT A POST TO THE LIST, BUT IT DIDN'T APPEAR ON THE LIST. WHAT WENT WRONG? You might have sent it to the wrong list or the wrong address. Remember that the "-request" address for the list is for computer commands and is not the address for posts to the list. Check the header of a piece of list mail to see the correct name and address for the list. It should be in this form: LISTNAME-L@rootsweb.com (All posts should go to the "L" list address even if you are subscribed to the digest format.) Are you still getting the list mail? If not, you might have been unsubbed. Use Password Central to see what lists you are subscribed to. If you are still getting the list mail, but your post did not appear on it, then you might have a problem with the subject line of your post or with your e-mail address. Sometimes if you leave the subject line blank, the computer will take it as a misdirected sub or unsub request and reject the post by forwarding it to the list administrator instead of the list. If you begin the subject line with ARCHIVE or even AR the computer thinks you are asking for archives and sends that to the list admin. Try changing the subject line and reposting the Message. You must post to a closed list using the exact address that you used when you subscribed. Check a piece of list mail and see what address the computer used to send you the list mail and compare it to the address you are now using as your return (reply to) address. They must be EXACTLY the same. Any changes in capitalization, additional characters or words or even an extra space and the computer will not recognize you. If you have more than one address and wish to post from both, contact your list administrator to put the second address on the accept list. Addresses on this list will be able to post to a list, but will not be sent the list mail. HOW DO I POST TO A LIST? First make sure you are subscribed. Use Password Central to see what lists you are subscribed to. Then send your post to: LISTNAME-L@rootsweb.com. Substitute the list's name in for LISTNAME. Note: All posts go to the LISTNAME-L@rootsweb.com address even if you are subscribed to the -D digest list. IF I SEND A MESSAGE TO A MAILING LIST, WHO WILL SEE IT? Any mail that you post to the list will be forwarded to everyone who has joined all forms of that list. The -D subscribers will get it in their next Digest, and the -M (or -L) subscribers will see it almost immediately as a mail message from you. Please remember not to send anything to the list that you do not want everyone else to see! Please also make it readable - no HTML code - just Plain Text. HOW LONG WILL MY NOTE STAY ON A LIST? Posts to a list are sent out almost immediately in mail mode or saved in the digest and sent out when the digest size or time limit has been met. A post does not stay on the list. It is only sent out once in mail mode and once in digest. Many lists are archived. Check with your List Administrator to see if a particular list is archived or not. The archives can be searched through http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl and at the threaded achives at http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ I FORGET WHICH LIST I SUBSCRIBED TO....HELP You will find the list name in the header lines at the top of the list mail you receive. For those of you who are brand new either to online genealogy &/or mail lists with Rootsweb. Please read this and hopefully it will explain. If you do not wish to get lots of messages then unsubscribe from the List mode and subscribe in the Digest Mode. In digest you receive several messages in one e-mail instead of individual messages several times. WHAT IS A MAIL LIST? A mailing list is a way of forwarding messages to others who are interested in the same genealogical research as you. You send your message to the list and it is sent to everyone who has subscribed to that list. And everything that anyone else sends to the list will be sent to you. It is a great way to find others who are researching in the same area or are researching the same surname. A mail list does not have an address that you can go to. It is not a place on the Internet. It only forwards email messages. It will have an address something like: LISTNAME@rootsweb.com A website will have an address that starts with "http://" or "www." I have been trying to gently "Beat" this into all my List members for all the lists I administer--- that CHANGING the SUBJECT line is extremely important and is required on my lists. I many times feel like a broken record but if people ignore this simple guideline, then it is more likely that people might not even read their posts and thus miss an important contact. Sorry but this is a NIT-Picking issue for me and I know many other folks will agree that being creative grabs the attention of the other list members. Please do not be afraid to post your success stories about your research also and share some of the negative experiences also in your genealogy research that have taught you to make changes to improve finding valuable family information. If you have offered to do lookups, please feel free to post your offer and then I would appreciate that those sending in requests for lookups from someone who is kindly volunteering their time to request the lookup privately off-list. If you are looking for help on some research, but do not know of a person to help, then by all means ask the list for help and see if someone responds to help you. I suggest when doing roll to put names in subject area for us .. NOW MASTERS and WILLIAMS are IN Washington and Greene Co PA early. They may be yours since most migrated west. I am going to look in the will book I have and another. :>) Susi
Please people, I need for you to change your subject lines when posting to the list. Please write to Grace privately with your lookup requests. Thank you. The list guidelines are: CHANGE the subject line when replying to someone's post , don't just hit the reply button. I can't stress this enough. There is no purpose in having the same subject line repeatedly for several replies especially if it has nothing to do with the original thread and people will quit reading the replies if the subject line is always the same. Grace I just sent you an email and foregot to tell you Samuel WILLIAMS wifes name, its Margaret and they had several children that all settled down in NE. I can give you there names if you think that would help? Paul WILLIAMS
Grace I have 2 grand parents that I am looking for in NE. Samuel WILLIAMS was beleased to be in eastern NE before 1900 and was thought to be here till his death in 1936. Also his son Thomas Henry WILLIAMS was working in Omaha & Lincoln in the printing business, beleave it was one of the newspapers around 1900. Toms' son Harold WILLIAMS was born in Lincoln 1904. Harold is my father. Thomas WILLIAMS wife was a MASTERS and George MASTERS & wife Ellen MARSH should have been in NE in the late 1890's thru death 1920 for George & 1902 for Ellen. I have been working on Anestry.com to locate both WILLIAMS and MASTERS and their homes before NE. Masters came to NE thru Canada were Gertrude MASTERS (my grandmother) (Tom's Wife) was born, Geo MASTERS came from somewhere in England? Samuel WILLIAMS also came from somewhere in England via Wisconsin where Thomas WILLIAMS was born. Grace, Anything you can do for me would be very apprecated! Paul WILLIAMS
Thomas WILLIAMS lived in Lincoln turn of century (1900), George MASTERS was in 1880 Census in Seward but lost him after that but know he was in NE. Thanks, Paul WILLIAMS
