Two sources you will want to check for Douglas and for about an hour and a half drive in any direction for the obits in Omaha papers: _www.omahaobits.wordpress.com_ (http://www.omahaobits.wordpress.com) has over 130,000 obits (sorry, even though we keep adding, we don't have enough helpers to get it "done" much faster than it's going up. _www.omahamarriages.wordpress.com_ (http://www.omahamarriages.wordpress.com) soon will have over 60,000 entries for Douglas county marriages. Many of those marrying here were from other places in Nebraska, western Iowa, and some even further afield. Maybe those will help. Coming soon (maybe by the end of the year) will be a birth registry for births that show up in early Omaha papers. Rarely is the child's name mentioned, sometimes it's Mr & Mrs., sometimes it's only the dad, and sometimes both parents are listed. They don't give the exact birth date, but it's probably better than nothing, especially if a child is born and dies between censuses, one gets a rough idea of the birth date. So far, I don't have 1,000 names collected yet...and lots of papers don't list any births, so it will be a very slow growing site...and it does NOT give the child's name in any of the entries I've found. We aren't going to be pulling them from current newspapers. Karen In a message dated 12/3/2008 3:29:37 P.M. I have found her in the 1900 census index for Omaha with her family: Parents ~ Joseph and Francisca (both born in Moravia) and siblings ~ Hermoine, Jacob, and Emma. Josephine married John MacKENZIE. They had 2 children: David and Grace, before Josephine died at the age of 22 in Omaha. I would like to find an obituary for her and any other info on the family.
