If people have questions about what markers say, the Greater Omaha Genealogical Society is reading many of the city cemeteries. We hope to have Springwell in publication by the end of the year. Others that are nearing completion are Westlawn-Hillcrest, Mount Hope and Evergreen (although we have interment data bases for the first three, we don't for Evergreen, so if people don't have a stone, we don't know who's there). St. Mary's and St. Mary Magdalene's are in progress, and going well, although quite aways from being finished. If you have people in any of these, we can check for the inscriptions for you if we have the inscriptions read, although please limit it to two or three at a time, not the whole 150 in your family at once. People have asked why we don't just put the readings on line, and frankly it's because we are trying to build the genealogy department at the library so that we can all find more ancestors. We're a relatively small society, and a pretty big city that doesn't fund its libraries very well these days. If we don't raise money to make the genealogy collection grow, it's not going to go very far or very fast. The books that we do of cemetery readings is one of the ways we have of raising money to do that. There happens to be an two excellent volunteers in that area and they will send you a photo of the tombstone. They sent photos to me of my Great-grandparents tombstones in that cememtery. Good luck!
