    1. Re: [NEDOUGLA] I NEED A LOOK UP
    2. The bad news is that the marriage you are looking for would be in about book #35 which is missing. (I just finished extracting the marriages on reel 15 which would have had that book on it this afternoon. We might be able to find a marriage date by looking at the index for both the bride, and the groom. (The index book has one full name with the surname of the spouse, but not the full name of both.) It's my intention of getting a makeshift list out of the index to cover that volume, but I've only got part of the "A" surnames done so far. I have about 30 pages of names extracted, and only have about 7 people who help with assigned reverse typing when they have time. When we get them typed with the bride's name first, then both sets of names will be posted on the _www.omahamarriages.wordpress.com_ (http://www.omahamarriages.wordpress.com) web site (for time effectiveness, we wait until we have at least 1000 names, but that usually happens once a week, and sometimes twice.) I usually do about two days of marriage record extracting and three days of obit extractions each week. The holiday cut into my work time this week, although abut 1600 obits were posted last night. I now have another person helping extract obits regularly, and a couple of Random Acts people who send me individual pages when they get requests. For both marriages OR obits, it's slower than it could be if I had more volunteers. For the birth certificate, you'll have to request it yourself from either the Douglas County Courthouse or State Vital Statistics. Nebraska is very sticky about letting out birth records after they started keeping their records. (We do have the early years of Douglas county birth records up to the time the state started collecting them at the library on microfilm, but it wasn't mandatory, and not everybody filed them.) You have to be specifically related, or have a notarized letter to pick up somebody else's birth certificate after the state started keeping the vital records. Birth announcements were used as "filler" in the newspaper in the early days (if they had some room with nothing else to go in.) It might be possible to find something that way, but it would give only father's name, birth place (usually hospital or residence address), and sex of the child. It would mean going through every day's newspapers and looking at almost every page, because although sometimes they were just before the obits at the want ad pages, they were sometimes at other places in the paper, as were obituaries scattered through the paper as well as sometimes at the first of the want ad pages. Sorry if this isn't much help. Karen In a message dated 7/3/2008 3:36:28 P.M.
