I have a Jan (John) and Anna Kortas that were from Tuchola, Poland, and emigrated to Toledo, OH in 1866. Do you know if your Kortas' were from this area of Poland as well? Funny, we had a name change to Curtis as well. In the early 1900s, the American-born children began using Curtis so that they would have more of an American name. Since they never legally changed it, they had to go back to using Kortas when my grandfather and his brother joined the military.
