My husband and I just got started this morning with one page each from the 1900 Missouri census. (Our Church meets in the afternoons this year.) They give you the option of choosing where you want to index, though if they're not starting NE yet, maybe you could help wherever. It will go on line, and it will be free once it is done. It doesn't cost you and me anything monetarily to do it, and they figure that each page will take 1/2 hr to 2 hours to do (depending on the proficiency of the individual, typing speed, degree of difficulty of reading the handwriting). The more volunteers, the more material will be available faster. They give you a week to finish the assignment which is reasonable. Then you ask for another assignment when you're ready--whether it's the same day or next week, or whenever. Request Nebraska records if you like. I don't know if they have any projects for it up immediately, but it's all going to be going on line eventually...and every page helps. If you aren't already an indexer, you can go to _www.familysearchindexing.org_ (http://www.familysearchindexing.org/) to volunteer. Although the LDS Church Family History Library is sponsoring the project, anybody interested can help and it will get more records available to us faster.
