Forest Lawn actually sold one unused section of their recently developed property to Douglas County, who then named it Potters Field. The county had full control and responsibility for the upkeep and care of the new cemetery. The only input from Forest Lawn, was a separate contract providing for digging and refilling the graves at $1.25 each Prior to this agreement the "Poor Farm" buried their dead right on their property, which is close to the County Hospital near 42nd and Center St. The number of burials or location of graves has never been disclosed. The county also was in control of all records names, date, and other details. This arrangement was in the late 1880, and was discontinued in the late 1930's or early 1940's. Forest Lawn has probably the best records of any cemetery in that time period, but for the most part, concentrated on their Cemetery, not Potters Field, or Prospect Hill.
