Jane...At Prospect Hill Cemetery, Elkorn, Douglas Co., NE: Rachel A. Doherty Nov. 24, 1848 Feb. 16, 1927 Mother On a larger stone, these names: Balford Doherty Nov. 9, 1843 May 19, 1941 Cora Doherty Feb. 20, 1885 July 27, 1893 Balford A. Doherty Aug. 3, 1889 Aug. 26, 1893 H. Balford Barber Aug. 28, 1901 Sept. 9, 1901 Eva Kahler April 17, 1871 March 15, 1903 Genevieve B. Weeks July 6, 1888 Jan. 26, 1893 Adjacent: Joshua Doherty April 17, 1817 April 22, 1899 Levinah, his wife April 24, 1822 July 31, 1910 - The stone says 31, not 3, per the book. E.A. Doherty 1861-1940 Brother Emma R. Chandler Jan. 10, 1867 Nov. 17, 1945 Rufus E. Chandler June 10, 1863 April 28, 1934 Frank J. Watters Aug. 15, 1877 March 5, 1895 Mary Doherty Murphy (remarried after Charles' death?) Sept. 23, 1870 Sept. 25, 1960 Charles Doherty March 24, 1855 July 21, 1933 Mabel Doherty Riggs April 29, 1891 July 9, 1992 Grace Marie Doherty daughter of Charles and Mary Oct. 7, 1896 Aug. 13, 1897 Bethel Doherty June 7, 1898 Oct. 15, 1935 Given the proximity and layout of the graves, it would appear that Joshua and Levinah are the parents of Balford, Charles and E.A.--as well as a daughter (not identified here) who married a Watters. There's a newspaper reference on the USGENWEB site for Douglas Co. with an obit for Frank Watters...who died at the farm of his uncle--E.A. Doherty, 3 miles west of Waterloo. Cora, Balford A., and Eva Kahler are likely children of Balford and Rachel. H. Balford Barber would be a child of Sarah Doherty Barber. Not sure about Genevieve...could she also be a daughter of perhaps Ruth or Bertha who married a Weeks? The Lizzie Weeks on the 1910 census could be a sister to this Genevieve. Daughter Emma could be Emma R. Chandler. Mabel, Bethel and Grace Marie are likely children of Charles and Mary. This gives you married names for Emma, Eva, and Sarah--and possibly Ruth or Bertha. I snapped some photos of the larger stones with my phone. Contact me directly if you want these and I'll e-mail.
