We are having our Fall Genealogy Conference this Saturday morning at the Nebraska Methodist College campus (Just north of Dodge, & East of 90th is the area). We have four speakers: Mike Smith will be talking about the types of records held by State Historical Societies. Cindy Drake will be discussing some of the genealogy/historical projects going on in Nebraska. Don Snoddy will be discussing "How to get from Here (NY immigration) to There (Nebraska) for $3 or So", based on a comment given to him by our Pres. who said her ancestor landed (alone) with $3 and got from NY to Nebraska with that little bit of money--as a young teenager. Our concluding speaker is Dr. Sheila Sigler who will be talking about preservation of heirlooms & records. Each registrant will be getting a special gift bag with a number of goodies in it. Just arriving this morning was one of the items that we'll be putting into the bags: Jul/Aug issues of the Genealogical Helper, a $7 value if you had to pay for it in the store...from the sound of things, enough for everybody to have one--unless we get another 40 people signing up Saturday morning at the door. We have lots of goodies for people to pick up (they didn't send quite enough for everyone to get one, but we still have lots--and maybe not everyone is interested in exactly the same places anyway). We'll have a bake sale, a white elephant table, and other items available for sale. There are a couple items that will be raffled, and we usually have a 50-50 raffle as well. Any proceeds beyond expenses buy more materials that are placed at the W. Dale Clark Library here in Omaha so that we can all find more ancestors. You can email me for exact address, cost, time, etc. And yes, members of G.O.G.S. do get a price break, but people CAN join at the door if they want to, and they'll get the back newsletters (since August of this year), the back issues of the Ezine will be emailed to them, and they'll be kept up to speed on what's happening in the Omaha area, genealogically speaking. We will also have news Saturday morning about the conference we are planning next Spring. (We already know it will cost more because we are bringing in a nationally known speaker.) Karen
